Keiko monster - Back to normal spam ;o) (8/09)

So Keiko had an accident in our room last night - poop :o(

It was part solid, part liquid. No big deal, it was near the door (FAR away from the bed... thankfully) so it got cleaned up. She had already gone twice yesterday before bed time - which is unusual for her.

This morning I let her out of her crate, sat down to drink a glass of water before our walk and she wouldn't leave my side. A few minutes later she vomited. Gross... got that cleaned up. She did her walk, but she was pretty sluggish. Now everytime I change places in the house (couch, office, kitchen etc.) She HAS to be by my side touching me. This is REALLY unusual for her. She got a little growly with Loki earlier when he tried to get close to me, but that was corrected and now they're ok.

I just don't know if something could be really wrong, or if she just ate something she shouldn't have and she's not feeling too well. I'm going to keep an eye on her, and probably call the vet if she doesn't start perking up in a little bit :o/

Hmm... I would go ahead and call the vet. Sounds like she might have picked up a stomach bug and is not feeling well.

Awwww. Poor Keiko! Give my niece lots of love for me <3 ~

Call the vet. It's better to be safe, and get some advice. It could quite possibly just be something she ate and she wants to be near you for comfort. Pedialyte and/or Pedialyte Popsicles are good to re-hydrate her if she continues to vommit or has diarrhea.

I'd call the vet. But Dawn and I are paranoid puppy parents. We always feel, better safe than sorry.

    I would call the vet.

Much love to the Monster, I hope she feels better.

Mylo has never been sick to the point where he needs to be near me all the time, but I have a friend who's dog does that to her. That's how she knows it's time to call the vet. I hope Keiko is ok and feeling better soon!

Yeah I called the vet, we're going to take her in at 5:30. The clingy-ness is what really has me concerned... plus she hasn't wanted to play at all today. She's the monster, so it's really weird that she's not terrorizing her brother and sister :o/

I'll let y'all know what we find out later.

Just got back from our trip to the vet. Of course there was no solid diagnosis... they're worried that she either had a bad reaction to something (ie bug bite) or that she may have swallowed something that's blocking her up. The vet felt her tummy and didn't feel anything hard or bloated, so we're holding off on x-rays unless something changes. She's on anti-nausea medication and also got a subcutaneous injection of fluid under her skin to keep her hydrated. It looks so wrong/painful... kinda like a boob job on her shoulders :o( I tried to take pictures, but you really can't tell.

Anyway, she'll start a special bland home cooked diet tomorrow morning, fed 2 tablespoons at a time, making sure she's keeping it down. If she vomits at all after eating she's going straight back to the vet for x-rays/ultrasound/berium thingy. I really hope there's nothing in there that will require surgery :o/ So fingers crossed until the morning.

For now she's corralled in the kitchen so the other dogs don't mess with her and her tender areas - which she is absolutely HATING.

Poor Keiko. Healing vibes. Hopefully it's just a little bit of stubborn poo or something not serious. Feel better!

*fingers crossed for just a little stomach bug*

    Aw! my best, Keiko!
    there's no blood, right?
    scary! poor poor girl.
    and poor Evan and James!!

    hang in there, guys!

Yeah no blood - and luckily we're REALLY on top of what the dogs get into. That's not to say that anything isn't possible, but we don't keep rat poison or anything like that around the house... again... it's not impossible that she got into something one of didn't notice on the walk, but it's pretty unlikely.

The vet did say she bleed a lot from the injections, which she seemed to believe was unusual... so she's not ruling out anything.

With this new knitting habit it is entirely possible she got a yarn scrap that I missed. I don't think she would swallow it, she's never ever been one to scarf down down treats or food. Always been a nibbler and light chewer on toys. The vet did suggest that's possible she and Loki or Belle were playing with yarn or something and she could have swallowed it accidentally, just being over zealous to keep her special toy away from them. I REALLY hope that's not the case, but we're going to keep our eyes on her 24/7 til she's back to her normal self.

Hope that Keiko is doing better this morning. Those sub-q fuluids do look strange when the are injected.

Has there been any more vomiting?

    Poor little Keiko.

Hopefully it is just a little tummy bug, and no foreign objects. Let us know how she is doing once you guys wake up!
  • edited November -1
So far she's eaten twice today, on her third right now. We're giving a tablespoon at a time to make sure it stays down - so far so good!!

Now we just have to hope that we get some solid stool. I'm going to have to call the vet to see where we go from here, and to make sure it's ok to give her water again.

Yeah for Keiko. Glad to hear that she's eating. The fluid bump can look really funny.
  • edited November -1
She seems better today, not quite as clingy. We let her out to see if she 'wanted' to play with Loki or Belle and sure enough she ran right up to them and started terrorizing them again!! Hopefully it was just a stomach bug, but I don't feel like we're totally in the clear yet. Just the over protective side of me that will continue worrying until she's totally normal for a few days.
  • edited November -1
Yeah Keiko. Hopefully she's all better. Keep us posted though.

Isn't it funny how we obsess over our Shibas' poop. Alot of conversations that Dawn and I have are about Katsu's poop. What color it is, the consitency, the amount. It's sick.
  • edited November -1
... still waiting for her to poop...

They suggest that she eats 1lb of the food I made for her, which is about 10x what she normally eats (in volume). She hasn't shown interest in the food after she's full, so I'm not sure if that's why she isn't going or not. Currently I have the monster under my desk and attached to my side again *sigh*

Not that I don't love her being all cuddly... it just worries me :o/

That seems like a lot of food. Maybe they're hoping it'll push things through her system? I hope the little rascal feels better (and a little more independent) soon. ***healing viiiiiiiiibes****

Just decided to add some sweet potato to the mix... maybe that'll get things moving again!

First time in my life I cook sweet potatoes, and it's for the dog lol

Mmmmm, can I come over for dinner? I'll even eat out of a blow on the floor. I Love sweet potatoes.

    Poop Keiko, Poop!!!! :)

If dogs could eat Korean food, I'd recommend the "fermented bean" soup. I'll tell you what, it's better than any laxative on the market. LOL
