Is LA branch AKIHO also a "club?" or is it the local version of that Registry that the JACA records with? it's the only branch of AKIHO in north America, right? Im starting to get it...
It is a club, in the sense that you join the organization and become a member. Membership is necessary to transfer a dog to your name, register a kennel, and register puppies. it is not required to own a dog (if you dont mind the pedigree still has the breeder's name). Our AKIHO branch has a lot of events besides shows, which I gather is unusual in the Japanese branches.
Akiho Los Angeles was the first branch formed off Japanese soil. It is one of 5 branches not located in Japan. Akiho is also a breed club for the preservation of the Akitainu and it is also a registering body.
JACA is the breed association for the Japanese Akita in the United States. It is not a registerting body but oversees and helps guides its member in their breeding programs. You do not need to be a member of Akiho to be in JACA nor do you have to breed Akiho. JACA will accept any Japanese Akita as long as it meets the guidelines of being a Japanese Akita.
I do want to make one correction. For Akiho-LA this will be the largest show of Akiho only dogs. In 70s when the branch was formed non-akiho dogs were allowed to enter. They had one show with over 50 entries.
