He's very cute! And they are interesting dogs, so you will see them change a bit from puppy to adolescent to adult (even in things they like or are scared of). Glad that the level training is working for you. But doing small/short sessions that are …

What a good boy wearing his tux so nicely! Congratulations on you marriage!

I think that shikoku are too soft to loud voices, tone of voice, etc, to be a good protection dog. While my 3 will bark, I think if push came to shove and someone started raising their voice or hitting them with a baton/stick (like they do in Schutz…

@Edgewood - One positive is, importing a LOT cheaper now than it was when I imported the bulk of our Kai thanks to a better exchange rate! It was more than double back then for the shipping charges - VERY PAINFUL. :-O Yes - I truly do NOT want to…

Katja told me Yano-San will replace Shogun, thanks to Shigeru. Yes, that is true, but we still have to pay the importation fees, which are expensive.

"Somewhat lacking" & "not the most" implies still showable, especially when we're talking about dogs outside of Japan with no Japanese judge to judge them ;) Irregardless it's good to know at least some genetic diversity is b…

How would someone go about importing a dog that has different bloodlines from all of the NA breeders? I would really like to do that. :) This is probably easier said than done, as many of the the shikoku (as it seems to me) in Japan are line bred t…

@twobirds - you may also want to inquire about the fate of any previous litters from the dam. Hopefully, if this was a "test" litter to see what sort of puppies Shogun might produce, the dam should have excellent ratings and her previous l…

@violet_in_seville I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't making light of Fate's condition, but still addressing the original topic. The owners of Shogun's puppies knew the risks of buying a pup with underaged parent(s) without health clearances. Th…

We really want to find a good home for Shogun, from what I have heard, he has a nice temperament and is a good dog. Which I believe is the right thing to do. (I co-own him)

I am a co-owner of Shogun, although I was not the breeder of the one litter that he had (bred by my co-owners -- their decision, I said it was up to them). However, I will address that speculation that he was bred for "his coat color", whi…

You might check out this website, it has a lot of good training techniques that work well with shikoku. Mine love the clicker training. Though I will admit that 2 of them can lose their food motivation away from home (like Jack). Thus, all the more …

Congratulations!

@twobirds You didn't ask me, but I can reply anyway! Shikoku can be very good at competitive obedience and very good in obedience class. A CGC is actually the lowest level of obedience, what I am talking about is CD, CDX type of work. You just have…

Very cute! In regards to your pros and cons, very typical given what I know of shikoku. For the cat, just keep reinforcing "no" that cat chasing isn't a good option. He will get it eventually. Especially once he is more than a few months…

I have horses, but the dogs are not let to run free around the horses. That being said, when the dogs have accidentally gotten out of the yard, they generally tend to ignore the horses and look for game like ground hogs. I wouldn't want mine runnin…

I am so sorry. I knew London was sick, but not the full extent. I don't have any experience to offer, but I can offer you my best wishes that he is strong and keeps strong to get through this.

@Crispy - I thought that they were out of different litters too, because I thought only 3 puppies shipped back from Holland (1 cream male, my red male, and a red female). There were 6 in the litter and I thought that 3 stayed in Holland. But maybe 4…

Ha, poor guy got sat on by the biggest dog!

@Zinja - yes, but Sachi did not get pregnant last time. Hopefully this next heat it will work.

Congratulations everyone! I really do look forward to seeing how these Kimi x Shogun pups mature. They do all look to have gotten their parents dark coat color. And Shogun is a very nice male from a very prestigious breeding program in Japan, so tha…

@jikjak - I don't hunt large game, but I do hunt ground hogs and possum with my shikoku. We have also hunted juvenile raccoons (and squirrels who ventured into the yard). For both, they generally are out to catch and kill it immediately by shaking. …

Not a Kishu, but my shikoku definitely tree squirrels and keep looking up and jumping up at the base of the tree. They don't bark though, but definitely look up and watch the squirrel.

I got asked three times in <1 hour if my 6 month old shikoku puppy was a wolf....um...no.

He's a good looking boy!

I cannot answer it for your shiba per se, but here are some videos of how my shikoku play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqqdELehDQU&feature=share&list=UUJjgfI9a5k687s-QnUY01_Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZmvrGywndk&feature=share&…
