Thanks. I did read the article. It was good and helped to confirm many things... including a continued need to socialize Jake during this adolescent growth. Jake exhibits perfectly normal dog behavior. Those folks at Happy Paws don't have a clue and I think back about your comment "Ceasar wanna bes" which is exactly what they are -- and a joke for the average dog.
So, I take Jake to doggie daycare today. It isn't cheap when considering more than a weekly visit, but I got my Fed. BUSH rebate so what the heck. Besides, I know I cannot afford not to socialize my Shiba.
Last night he played with the 3 year old and 7 year old neighbors. The parents said "he's a sweety!"
We arrive and the handler says most Shibas who come in here are so shy. "you've done a wonderful job" with Jake as she pets and he licks her face. Yep, standing tall, a true Shiba owner.
I return to pick him up. "Did Jake play with anyone?" Yes, he played with Rose and John... "He played with a male??!?" Yes, he did.
Who cares if our dogs act differently when we are around and potentially needing protection. The point is to socialize this breed as much as possible, with humans and other animals, to achieve a balance for our primative breed to become managable. Right now, Jake sleeps. Proud momma keep on burning.
He loves me so much as I do him. Low maintenance? I don't think so.
