Well, for Mother's day we spent it at Tom's parents house. My Mother wanted peace and quiet, his Mother wanted us to spend some time with her, so everything worked out perfectly. The boys spent the day there, running around the backyard and playing with their Standard Poodle. There is also a small pond with a waterfall at the corner of the yard, of which the boys loved practice their mountain goat skills. In the process, Tikaani rearranged the rocks, giving it a more 'natural' look.
For some reason, Tikaani prefers to try to drink the water (we try to stop him, but wanted to take video this time) on the waterfall side, prefering to climb the rocks instead of just walking by the flat side.
When we brought the boys in, their Toy Poodle was guarding a treat that he wasn't interested in eating. Tetsu, sensing something yummy between those poodle paws, tried to sneak a bite. In the end, he was getting frustrated at not breaking through the Poodle Shield and started to get vocal.
I got my boys attention, and gave them their own treats, before kicking them back outside. After 5, they pretty much spent a lot of their time sleeping, as that was more running around than they were used to.
Oh, I really did miss out on this thread earlier. Tikaani & Tetsu are gorgeous!
Beth, you must have a really nice camera as well! The photos come out beautifully. The boys have grown up so much, I can't believe how handsome they've become.
Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward for more updates of the duo.
Most of my pics and videos were taken with our Nikon Coolpix P80. Makes for a pretty decent point and click, but what really sold me was the fact that there's an option for manual focus, basically adjusting a bar on screen, as Auto-focus can get really annoying, especially when there's not enough light.
Well, we took a weekend camping trip to Massachusetts, and boy was it eventful. We drove and took a ferry to there Friday, and it was nothing but rain. The ferry rocked so much that it made Tetsu very uncomfortable. I eventually sat on the floor with him on my lap (to reduce him feeling the engine vibrations), which eased him slightly.
We got to the site at 9:30pm, and threw open a temp pop-up tent. It rained all night, and we discovered that the tent wasn't very water proof. The next morning, the minute we put the dogs on tie-out, Tikaani snaps both tie-out cords in an attempt to chase a squirrel. Both my boys start running after the squirrel, we catch Tetsu; and luckily for us, that squirrel ran up a nearby tree, keeping Tikaani's attention long enough for us to catch him. After we 'ghetto' tie the dogs back up, we get to work on breaking down the temp tent and pitching the good one.
The whole time we were at the site, Tikaani did nothing but suqirrel watching: Freaking squirrels Tetsu joined in sometimes.
We hung out with Kristin and crew( http://www.nihonken.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=4219&page=1#Item_12 ), and had a blast. We followed it up by watching a double feature at the Wellfleet Drive-in theater. Since everything was outside, the dogs were welcomed, they even were giving out treats at the ticket booth. It was such a great thing watching "Up" and "Star Trek" in a car, on the big screen, with Tetsu in my lap. Both movies were great, and we didn't get back to the site till 2am.
This morning, before heading back, we took a walk around Plymouth, and even visited Plymouth Rock. Tetsu didn't very much want to be near US history, trying as hard as he could to get as far as possible. But I still managed to get a shot of him looking at it.
After some more walking, we eventually drove back to the ferry, and just managed to get on. Tetsu Hated it, but not as much as the first time around. Once we were back on the island, we drove home and Tom has been asleep since. And here is one final shot I managed to get because it was just so silly. I guess Computers are the new shoes.
Looks like a great time. It makes me want to go camping. When I saw this picture this popped into my head.
TIkaani:"Okay Tetsu, we got this tree down now what?" Tetsu:"Well if we're going to make a dog house we're going to need some tools like...a hammer, a saw, some nails...and thumbs...DAMNIT! Foiled again by our lack of thumbs." Tikaani:"Wanna go watch squirrels?" Tetsu: "Okay."
The keyboard thing is funny. I always thought the shoes meant someone was selling drugs. What do the keyboards mean. A dimebag and techsupport?
Well, since Tetsu has such an addiction for Catfood, I've been feeding my cat in the closet. But, no matter what I do, he still finds his way into the closet and eating the prize. I've used various types of blockades and baby gates with little success. We eventually set up this one 2.5ft tall baby gate to wobble when he tries to jump over it, which has helped. But now he has learned how to get around the baby gate from the cat. I tried piling laundry (mainly several comforters that I have been too lazy to wash) and screens in his way, but he has also found a way around that by going under the "dog" bed.
I managed to get a video of it...Just amazes me at how good a problem solver he is when it comes to getting something he wants.
My dogs eat anything, especially cat food (just like Tetsu!). So I don't free feed my cats anymore, like my dogs, they are on the same feeding schedule. So when my kittys are eating. The doggers are in their crates eating. Everyone finishes their meal (including the kittys) in a very timely manner. Dogs are done in less then a minute. Kittys may take up to 5 minutes but they eat everything.
Does Tetsu know how to climb the refridgerator? I've found the counter is no good but perhaps you'll have better luck feeding your cat on the fridge???
Love the shots from your camping trip. The keyboards made me think of this: Hey, pssst, you needing some Ram, I got some. How about some jump drives - I got the primo stuff right here.
Corina, Problem with putting catfood high up is that my cat can't get it. She is going to be 10 in Sept. and is unable to really jump very high anymore, even when jumping onto the bed she has to climb part of the way. So she would need assistance, of which Tetsu would take advantage of. My closet is big enough to hold my dressers, with the bowl of catfood in the far corner. I didn't even record how Tetsu would climb up some junk I have stored in there, like a mountain goat, to get onto the dresser.
For our closet door we have an eyehole screw anchored into a stud on the inside of the door. To that we have a rope attached, on the other end of the rope is a tied off loop that fits around the doorknob. The length of rope is cut so that the door opens wide enough for the cats to fit in, but not Nemo.
If I could get her in one, she's had bad experiences and won't even go near it.
Right now, what sort of works is this kind of tuperware container that some other catfood came in. It has a flapping lid that automatically closes if you don't hold it open. So it works, until Tetsu figures it out again (he figured it out when he was a puppy and the catfood was located elsewhere.)
What I'm probably going to do is make a box with a hole just big enough to fit her paw in so she can scoop out the food whenever she is hungry. She has done this many times with catfood boxes that only has a small opening. She also scoops up water with her paw (someone said that she must have some maine coon in her, that's a trademark of the breed), so she's quite adept with her paws
I dogsit for a family with a very over-zealous-kitty-food-eating cattle dog. When that cattle dog graduated from her dog crate, they got a metal clip (like one that would be at the end of a dog leash) and propped the door open with the clip just enough for the cat to squeeze through. It works!
Beth - Really? Fiskars just turned 11 years last month (May 9th), however she still acts very much like a kit and still looks very young for her age. She like 7 lbs though. ***Oh, nevermind...I got the size comparsion through the group photo. How much does your kitty weigh though? Do you know?***
Since she won't go into a cat carrier, it means she won't go into a large wire crate either? Hmm...this is very tricky with Mr. Smarty pants Tetsu. If the box with paw-size hole doesn't work (after Tetsu figures it out). Maybe you'll just have to offer your kitty multiple "supervised meals" throughout the day???
Or I wonder if you give Tetsu some "bad tasting" experiences with cat food (keep away from kitty, of course)? -sighs- For all you know, he'll probably end up LOVING it even more. Yum...sour apple & fish flavored cat food! Awesome! lol.

I love it! Tikaani is so beautiful... even in a teeny pond!
And I love the vocalizations!

Glad you caught your pups after they chased some squirrels! That is never fun!
Seems like a pretty standard camping weekend. A little bit of wet, some dogs running loose, camping is supposed to have adventure.
Tikaani's close up is great, it's like he's smiling in anticipation of what he'd do to the squirrel.
That picture with the keyboards cracked me up. I will show it to the gang task force... I bet they will get a kick out of it!
