Jeez, you buy enough a month to keep a small boutique store in business :P

    wow - that's a little scary.

Wanna know what's even more scary to think about? The poop to pick up on a daily basis...

    Jesse

    oh, yeah.

Wow! That's it - just... wow. That's nuts! Jesse, I can't even fathom the poo. :P

Yeah, I always wondered about that...the poop. *shudders*

The amount of food is scary too. Just not as scary as the poop.

We have a wheel barrel full of poop - I can take a pic of that too if you like. :o)

That's okay...imagining it is plenty enough for me.

    wow!
Then again, Toby eats through 1 big bag of Orijen per month, soo not sure where it is going. lol
  • edited November -1
Wow! How much does he eat at each feeding?
  • edited November -1
    What? wow - that's a lot for a Shiba!

Those 2 bags of Orijen are for Kaia, Maui, Loa, and Ahi. They go through that in a month... Does Toby have a tapeworm?

He just eats a cup twice a day. He's super active, though.
    Then again, he's not a normal Shiba. He's almost 40 lbs. D:

Holy moly. That's absurd. That's got to be more than 150 pounds of food right?

Am I weird for sorta kinda somewhat wanting to see the poop? :-/
  • edited November -1
That is a lot of food, but there are enough stomachs to justify it.

I'm with Dave though, I'm kind of curious to see the poop too. It's almost sort of a don't believe it till you see it thing.

LOL - that is a lot of food! I too am a little curious to see the poop! hahaha!

That's a lot of food, but I actually thought it would be more.

We're trying that salmon Acana next month to start our rotation. How are the pups liking it?

thats a lot of food, ok so we're probably doing this wrong but roxy just has food in her bowl and can eat when she wants, she eats a bowl maybe every 2 days, she doesn't eat a lot, maybe thats y she's so skinny. we go through a small bag maybe 1 a month or so
  • edited November -1
Actually, Roxy might do a lot better on a scheduled feeding. :)

That's more food than I buy in a year.

Holy Crap! Literally, that must create a lot of crap! Im curios to see the poop-barrow too.

Miso and Sake barely finish one big bag of orijen in a month...
  • edited November -1
Dave you are weird for many reasons. The poop is just one reason.

    Jess - Agreed

    impressive food mountain!

That's sick. Do you feed your dogs all at one time? The dog trainer said I may never have Sasuke and Ninja eat together because Sasuke's food aggression... He also said it was uncommon for an Akita, Yorkie, and a Cat to be eating a the same time, but we still can do it.

That's a month's rent for me :) What do you do with all the poo? Fertilizer? I hope you get a frequent buyer discount from wherever you buy those from. It looks Costco-esque lol.

Steph: Toby is 40lbs? Wow! Sasuke is 25lbs at 7months. How big was Toby? I'm just trying to imagine how big Sasuke might get when he is fully grown.

At 7 months, Toby was probably 30lbs. I can't remember. D: To put it into perspective, Toby was 10lbs at 12 weeks old. Fat puppy.

Can you get breeder's bags or broken bags from the supplier/at the store-maybe cheaper, I don't know if it's possible in your area given the remote-atude. Wow!
  • edited November -1
ok what would be the best way to go about switching roxy to a scheduled feeding

That's more food than I go through in a year. Of course, that doesn't count all the raw I feed, though.

Rui - Our pups LOVE the salmon Acana. The only downside is if they spit up at all [Kahuna tends to do this due to drink too much water] you get a lovely fishy smell.

Joe - Yes, we feed all the pups at the same time except for lunch - Masha is the only pup that gets lunch. We feed them in their crates or in different areas of the house. Some of them eat twice a day some eat once - some of them just don't like to eat in the AM.

    ----

Food costs - We are part of the Orijen/Acana breeder program, so we get a small discount, but it is what it is... We have 11 dogs, 4 of them are Akita, and 2 are Caucasian Mountain Dogs. Some are even puppies and therefore eat more... so, it's gonna be a lot of food to feed that type of pack. Where a Shiba will get a cup of food [or so] a day An Akita eats around 3 cups and a CO eats about 6 cups a day.

    ----

As for the poop, I will go out and take a pic later. We have been collecting it in the wheel barrel for a while now, eventually I will build some poo composters but I have to wait till the snow melts for that.
