It's truly interesting how much dogs can communicate. They are so intune to what goes on around them, I'm not shocked they are just giving Kaia her space.
I believe Rimadyl has the potential to cause GI upset and organ damage regardless of Nordic lineage, although it may be worse for certain drug naive breeds. If she just started taking Rimadyl and subsequently developed the GI effects, maybe switch to something like Zubrin, Metacalm or Deramaxx (just from experience I like these better than Rimadyl). I hope she feels better. Poor girl.
Kaia is home, she is doing ok. They gave her some meds to help with passing the Rimadyl out of her system - she only got one dose of Rimadyl and it caused this many problem for her. Obviously she is not taking Rimadyl anymore.
She also got some liquids, hopefully that will help her. She's been sleeping well since she got home, so she is obviously more comfortable.
I am glad that she is able to sleep. (I just breathed a huge sigh of relief!)
I am so sorry that the meds are causing her more discomfort than she already had to begin with. I hope with the Rimadyl out of her system she will begin to eat and feel (at least stomach-wise) a bit better.
We are all sending love and get well vibes to little Kaia.
Thank you for the update, I am so very glad to hear that she is sleeping soundly and is able her fluids down. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts and hoping that Kaia gets better really soon
Kaia slept most of the day, she seemed to be doing a bit better after the last vet visit, but tonight she had horrible diarrhea. She has not had diarrhea up to this point, she had been vomiting but no diarrhea.
She's still very inactive - like can't hold her head up inactive. She's been that way most of yesterday and today, the vet felt it was due to the meds + the bad meds leaving her system.
Oh, Kaia...if it is not one end, it's the other. I don't know if this would help, since it's most likely meds related, but we've found that white rice had helped with the runs and it makes a nice "binding agent". I know my pups love the stuff, and this is what we got Tikaani to eat when he was sick.
I hope something shows up in the blood work so that your vet can diagnose what the problem is and get her on the road to recovery. Poor Kaia baby. I hope she gets better soon.
Kaia's kidney levels are slightly low, not horrible, but not good either. Her white blood cell count is very low too. They have her in the intensive care are and are treating her with some potassium, fluids, and a different med.
The good news is the vet feels she will recover fine and just needs to be on the drip for a bit. The bad news is she may need to stay over night.
If the good news is that she will recover, then there IS no bad news. Let her stay as long as the vet says. She is a little fighter and you know that she wants to be home with you but she is just not ready....yet.
I agree that if the vet feels she will recover, then there is no bad news. I am sure little Kaia will pull through just fine. My thoughts remain with you guys until she is back home, happy and healthy.
She is doing sooooooo much better! She's alert and wants to walk around. She is still not eating, but she will drink water and she shows interest in her food [buried it]... Before she wouldn't drink and didn't even bother to acknowledge her food.
Yea for Kaia! I'm so happy she has pulled through this episode! Hopefully now the vet and you can be aware of what is causing this negative reaction for her! I'm so glad to hear her pain seems to be subsiding...
I would keep a chart on her so you can pin point her behavior and her reactions. Sometimes it's a combination of factors that can pull an animal down and under, particularly if there are other health issues.

We are going to take her back to the vet.

We had to leave Kaia at the vet to be monitored as we wait for the results of some tests [blood work]. Hopefully we will know something soon.
We are really stressed right now, we just want her to get better.
I'll let you know as soon as I know something.
