Today went SOOOO well, I'm kinda shocked to be honest. We only had two resource guarding issues with the monster (Keiko) and those were VERY quickly resolved.
Belle doesn't like to play a whole lot, but he's really respectful of that (much more so than Keiko). I'm hoping that the 'newness' of the situation with Keiko and Loki calms soon... he was very very tired tonight and she just kept pushing to initiate play. We finally put her to bed after a few minutes of knowing he wasn't interested and he passed out in our laps ) I think she's just glad to have someone around with the high energy and play that she has.
There is only one thing I wish we hadn't done. When we called our vet they kind of pushed us to bring him in today since they had an opening and the next wasn't til the end of next week... I REALLY REALLY wish we had waited. The poor boy barely knows us, and he's been through ALL sorts of stress today. The last thing he needed was our vet wanting to give him his rabies shot. It did give us some insight as to how skittish he can be around loud noises and painful things (ie temp taken, shot administered). Looking over the paperwork that was filled out when he was given to the HS you can tell the original owner was a real piece of work... just a lot of contradicting statements and seemingly false information. We think he came from an abusive household that didn't know what to expect, but obviously there's no way to tell.
All I can say is, we're in love!!!!!! He is just as sweet as you would expect from a Lab, and SUPER smart (he already learned sit, down, stay and drop it... I think the shelter worked on him a little, but I'm still amazed at 7 months with strangers he's able to do them without question). Plus he will walk to the door and 'knock' on it with his paw to go outside. As soon as you say 'Go Potty' he goes!
What cuteness, and I love the paws...I'm glad he's adjusted well.
vets always want a new dog in as soon as possible, who knows what could happen between now and next week. At least you got it over with and don't have to worry about it for a while.
I'm so glad its going so well so far. And with the vet, its not a bad thing really.. he could have had something that would be potentially harmful to your girls, so it was a good precaution to take.
Everything went pretty well today, we limited playtime a bit more to avoid the exhaustion, although during the third 'session' they did finally wear themselves out and lay next to each other (the monster and Loki). Belle is still trying to get him to understand that she doesn't ALWAYS want to play, and she's going a great job - just a little vocalization and he backs off and looks for other things to do.
We did have a few 'spats' tonight... first Keiko and Loki (he initiated the growling which eventually led to him pinning down Keiko). Nothing serious (although my ears are still ringing from the Shiba scream!) , I think they're just trying to figure out the roles they play in the family. Then Keiko had a little run in with Belle, which hasn't happened in a long time but also nothing serious (Belle also seemed to be the one to pin Keiko that time). When it got to the point that all three were kinda sitting separated being growly we just said "Bedtime!" and they all ran for their crates. I'm assuming they were all tired since they're all sleeping soundly right now (although I'm a bit on edge still lol).
Luckily no real potty accidents today - just some leaky pee from Keiko when she was scared, and a little leaky pee from Loki when he was excited to go outside this morning.
Our house is a MESS because I just haven't had time to clean in the past week... but I promised to take pictures and so I did!!! )
Loki thinks he's a lap dog... and Keiko has decided that she is too... it makes for some fun relaxing time on the couch ;o)
Loki trying to cuddle on my lap
Keiko looking all happy cuz the camera is out (she's a ham for the camera!)
Soooo much to say about this photo... my favorite part is that we obviously never eat at the table since the salad spinner is in the middle of it...
Keiko and Loki (Belle starts to sneak in!)
Keiko, Loki and Belle... Belle must have thought there were treats to get mixed up with those two!
Loki's ADORABLY more perky left ear... it stands up a lot more than the right and I think it's just perfectly fitting for his character!
Loki and the monster start to play on my lap... not the best feeling in the world...
And finally... a bonus video of the terrors running through the house - our carpet seriously has track marks dug into it from SOOOOO many circle chases around the coffee table...
I am absolutely loving on Loki btw! [ & his perky left ear! ] He just looks soooooooooooooooooooooo happy! I love his expression
[ hey! What's in the red plastic cup in the video? ]
BTW! I had the exact same dining room table & chairs!!! I had them until I was 12, & then...my grandparents bought the same exact set a year ago! I think that dining room set is going to follow me the rest of my life!
Poor Belle. She probably thinks, "I use to be an only child...then you brought this annoying little puppy...who grew into something bigger then me...& now...you bring me a GIANT puppy? The nerve!" haha too cute, I love her!
LOL the red cup has... umm... adult beverages in it! ;o)
Yeah that damn dining set... it's falling apart and we've already put two chairs to rest - the BEST part is... every time we go to the Salvation Army store there's another set in there of the exact same (either white or black) and they want people to pay $200 for it!!!!!
Belle is SO much happier when the two are playing and she can just chill on our laps... until they decide that the lap area is part of the playground (although we're teaching them that it's not ok, and they're starting to get the hang of it).
Love it! Keiko and Loki seem to be getting along great. (Even though Keiko is technically cheating with her shortcut!)
Poor little Belle. She needs to meet this little Doxie that was at our park last night... That little guy thought he was the biggest dog in the world. He barked at EVERYONE. Nola so wanted to go play with him!
LOL!!! I love the video, that's just a riot!! Keiko and Loki act like little litter mates, that's just so cute! Hmm...maybe you need to round up to 4, and get Belle her own dog! ;o)
LOL if we round up to 4 I'm pretty sure I'll be talked into getting a Chihuahua... although ever since Osy posted that she's a Swedish Vallhund James has been on the search for one.

Congrats on adopting Loki!! He is really cute.
He's a cute little guy, and he seems to be in good shape.

No if only he would teach that to Keiko.
LOL

He and Keiko sound like a trip! We need a video!
Enjoy your newly enlarged family!

Congrats on the new addition. And it does sound like the introduction period is going fairly well. Yay!
