My sisters and I all have the Kanji for "Love" in a different form on us. My little sister has it very small on her ribcage, my older sister has it larger on her lower back and mine is the body of a butterfly between my shoulderblades.
I thought it meant dance - which is why I'm so relieved that it actually does ;o)
That and I thought it looked cool... back of the neck was something I probably should have thought about a little more, but I can still hide it with a collar if I need to.
I have Nishimura in kanji tattooed on me. I know it's right because my grandma wrote it...and I hope she writes her own last name right lol. She faxed it to me and they used that so my tattoo is even in her handwriting.

As another poster above wrote, Kanji is borrowed from Han (chinese) characters and MANY but not all share similar meanings. For the most part, singular noun or verb Kanji have the same meaning, but combination kanji may vary very widely from Chinese meaning. Also, some Kanji that were borrowed retain meanings that are now archaic in Chinese. Nobody uses the Kanji 私 (watashi) to mean "me" or "I" in Chinese anymore. Also most characters in Japanese retain both a Chinese-borrowed and adapted pronunciation, and a native Japanese pronunciation, but some do not. Something like 犬 can be read ken or inu because of this, but something like "良" singularly is just read as "yoshi" (as part of a name).. but then again, name Kanji are a whole different story..
Today we took Keiko to our friends 4th party (we left Belle at home because there were going to be 3 other 'big' dogs there, and obviously Loki wouldn't have been able to handle the crowd, let alone the dogs).
She interacted just like she always has with other dogs - very submissive, rolls over, licks faces... a little leaky pee (thankfully we did intros outside). She was also great with all the new people, per usual. Licked faces and hands, jumped up with tail wagging.
But... after the initial 'newness' of the situation was over the ONLY thing she wanted was for me to pick her up and hold her. If I was sitting she just hopped on my lap (an accepted practice at my house unless food is around) and if I was standing she gave me the 'up' signal (two paw taps to the leg).
Everyone commented on how attached she was to me and how lovable and cuddly she was with me... which is exactly the opposite of the puppy I had just a few months ago!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love my Keiko monster tons... it's just a HUGE HUGE HUGE change!!! (This isn't the first time she's been attached to me, but all of the comments from the party today just kinda made me realize she's not the little fuzzball that could care less if I was around or not.)
I love Keiko. Tosca is mad at me for working on a bracelet instead of playing with her so she's ignoring me for a while. Shiba swap anyone? Just for a few days.
Ohhh! I'd totally swap you a Keiko for a Tosca for a few days!!!!!!!!!! I think I talk about Tosca enough that James wants to duct tape my mouth lol!!!!
I have a trade proposal. How about Tosca for whatever stray cats from our complex I can catch, and an undisclosed minor league pitcher to be named at a later date.
Evan, Katsu is kind of the same way when we go out. When she's not sitting under the nearest table, she's either following us around or getting mushed.
Tsuki got a lot more, well, "cuddly" or "clingy" (as much as can be for a shiba) after she hit the 12-18 month old mark. She's off and on now, she's a really independent dog, she thinks for herself - but she still looks to me for comfort, or whatever you call it, when she stressed and is "cuddly".
Here's a funny video of the monster. I'm not sure if she's mad at the laptop (because it takes up 'her' space in my lap at night) or if she's mad at her reflection. I think it's the reflection when the screen turns black - as soon as I make the real screen pop up (ironically a picture of her) she kinda howls at it and then leaves it alone. I was CRACKING up tonight everytime she got mad at the laptop, but only managed to capture it on my crappy cell. Tomorrow night I'll make sure I have my camera nearby ;o)
I can't tell if you can hear the growl or not since I'm on my laptop at the moment, but hopefully it doesn't just look like a video of her hackles raised lol!
LOL Melissa... as soon as I finally watched it on my desktop machine I was like "Yeah... this is LAME... no one can see anything!!!" If it gets any cooler in the condo over the next few days I'll try to set up a video shoot to capture the awesome cuteness ;o)
So today I baked some blueberry muffins with the blueberries we got at the farm next to us. Needless to say the children thought they should be involved in every step of the process including tasting (they didn't get that lucky). So here are a few pictures of Loki and Keiko and some muffins... oh and the knitting that I started today. Three days ago I decided I needed another hobby so I bought a 'teach yourself knitting' book. ... wow typing that out makes me sound like a walking stereotype :oP

Good job with the knitting too. Dawn tried to knit me a scarf once, it turned into a big knot and she gave up. Don't be ashamed, some of the coolest people I know were knitters. They were grandmas though . Honestly though I've been having this compulsion lately to buy a sewing machine so I can make my own puppia rip off harnesses.
