Now, I was looking at the photos (yes, again!) and I got the impression that Silvia might have sent me the wrong picture. Nothing wrong with the pictures, I just mean that I got the impression that they don't match the dogs they're supposed to match. Somehow I got the impression that the latest one identified as male B actually are of the female puppy. Then I started comparing again, and male A might in fact be the male in the middle in that photo of the three of them. Am I crazy?
Leonberger...You're absolutely right. The last two pix are the female, unless the muzzle has already changed, which would be a little strange. Tho she seems to have gotten darker from the previous pic.
I really like the girl. So cute! Awe, hell, they're all cute.
Silvia replied my email saying that these photos are right. So maybe the mistake was in the first ones. Don't know. Anyway they're all cute, so, in that department, we'll be happy with anyone of them. Male B seems to be the loving one out of those two, male A seems to be more independent and distant.
Today was kitty looking day. We didn't have any luck. Or better, we had no luck on two places, half luck on another one and too much luck on yet another one. " places didn't have kittens the age we wanted (2-4 months), another place might have a 5 month female, and another one had two kittens that were around 1,5 months old, but they would only give the both of them. And that's a bit too much for now, although we did like them a lot, they were so cute and so small. Tomorrow kitty looking day again. Let's see how we do...
If Portugal is anything like the US, kitten season is starting soon. 90% of the cats at my rescue are last years kitten season kitties. One of mine is from 2006, one from last year. We're already planning on bringing one from this years home if not 2. I'm a lazy butt and it's easier to find kittens when everyone is overwhelmed. If you want 2 month olds June would be the best time to look. But at the same time...there's always someone having kittens all throughout the year.
The idea behind the kitten coming now and at around 2-4 months was that she could get used to us and not stay running from us, and then we'd introduce the dog. Since I'm taking 2 weeks off after we get the dog, and Nat is taking one, we'd be able to have some control of how that would work and how they would react to each other.
How about searching through the Akita's in Dogster. I looked at about 20 Akita's. One name came up, that was pretty cool...Misiu. And yes that was a male Akita.
I do like Kuma, but it seems like a pretty common name.
Not a bad suggestion at all, Barbara. I like Kuma very much, because Akitas do actually make me think of bears and it is a character in Tekken (geek much?) And Kuma might be a common name there, but here there are almost no Akitas (every year we get 20-30 registered individuals, if that much).
Meanwhile, the name craze continues...Taka (falcon/hawk) and Kazuya (tekken...again) came up!
Thanks guys! He is really cute, I just can't wait to get my hands on him. We're leaving on Sunday to get him on Monday and I'm counting hours, minutes to go. Started the day countdown on my MSN nick when 2 weeks were missing, but now it gets worse, I get more anxious, heheheh. And I'm really curious how Nyx and Kuma (yes, I think it stays) will react to each other. She's managing to be a handful on her own, I imagine the both of them together. I think I'm going to get a ton of white hair. Let them come!
Brad - I have a stupid grin on my face, so I guess laughing is natural too.
So, today Silvia emailed me saying that I was right two weeks ago! Today, she said, she took the pups outside to brush them, and as she was brushing the "female" she noticed it was a male! So the photos we've been seeing for the past two weeks are in fact of my pup's sister. Here go photos of the actual little guy:
Thanks Brad! Yes, i bet it must be kind of hard to find out. We recently (1 1/2 years ago) had the same issue with my mom's cat. He was a girl for a month, and then we found out the truth...
As to whichI like more...Well I think I'd say I like Kuma better than his siter for the reason you pointed out, and because he's the one coming home with us, but i think I have to be fair and say she might be a tad cuter. Not that I don't think he's really cute, of course I do. Anyway,as looks go it was always a win win win situation, cause all three are really cute.Character wise, and that's what's important to me, ad what I asked Silvia to keep in mind, it seems we're getting the one that's more caring. The other male seems to be more suspicious, she said. In 5 days, I'll get to know all of this better. 5 days!!!
So, we're leaving Sunday early morning, like 6am or so. Does anyone have any advice for the trip back with the pup? Probably he'll be sleeping for most of it, but who knows? I got a protection thing for the seats which is kind of a half pipe made of nylon, with holes for the seat belt locks. I don't think I'll be putting the seat belt on him right away, it's a long trip and he'll probably be kind of confused with these new people he never saw before taking him away. How many hours between stops? 3? Less?
We took Mika back in a crate to keep her safe. We brought a toy that we slept with to keep her company and acclimated to our scent. Since you have Nyx, the toy could have her scent on it too.
I would stop every 2 hours. Maybe have some treats on hand when he's quiet in the crate. Never too early for training .
Mika wasn't so happy about being away from her litter. She was only 5 weeks old. The mother was kept away from the litter because she was being aggressive with the pups...rolled over one and killed it, too.

Sent her an email to confirm. When in doubt...

Two weeks and two days to go!!!
Thanks Brad!!
We're stoked too! A lot! I can't wait!

Yes, Portugal seems to be like that too.

One week to go and I can't get decided on the dog's name!
Yuuki was taking point, but I'm having smoe doubts, especially about the name Yukie, that, in Portuguese, sounds very close. Maybe I'm being silly.
Old favourites (form 5 years ago, when i first thought of having an Akita) are coming back, like Aka (red) and Kuma (bear).
I keep going to this English-Japanese translation site, and googling dog name websites, so I can try to translate some of them and see what comes up.
I'm going slightly mad (I'm such a geek I managed to slip a Queen tribute in a post) about it. I might just call the dog Dog.

I got a fresh photo of the little guy. Since it is only one photo this time, i assume this is the one I am getting.
6 days to go!!!
This guy has a teddy bear face...I think I see Kuma.
man, he is so cute... i mean i can't stop looking at his little face. I think Kuma fits him well!
I laughed out loud when I saw him - not because he looks funny, just because he is so cute... it was like the only way my body knew how to react. lol!

You two aren't the only ones. I can't get over how cute he it too!
Congrats to you and Nat (and Nyx)!

Meet Kuma
That is funny! I guess it's hard to sex a big ball of cute fluff.
I have to admit, I like the real Kuma better, looks more manly and tough! Congrats!
