Hana has made a full recovery!!

edited January 2011 in General
The last few days I noticed Hana acting really weak and she refused to eat any thing, which is very unusual sice she's a big chow hound. She also dropped her weight significantly and so I rushed her over to the emergency vet. She's there right now getting x-rays, blood tests, and aurin test done so we'll see whats going on. During her initial check she showed a high fever and some what deep breathing and the vet was concerned that she hasn't vomited.

I'm now waiting to hear from the vets office so I will post up any updates.

  • Wishing for a quick diagnosis and easy recovery. I hope it doesn't have to do with that bird she ate.
  • Oh no! I hope everything is okay... My thoughts are with you guys!
  • Gen,
Hope everything is okay. You hanging in there?
  • Oh man I hope it's nothing too serious. Keep us updated.
  • Oh Gen I'm so sorry. Please keep us posted. I do hope this isn't anything serious.
  • Oh man, hope she is ok. Keep us posted.
  • That really sucks...I hope they find out what's wrong with her so she can start some meds fro recovery
  • I hope she's ok....this sounds scary. Keep us posted!
  • I hope she's ok and back home soon!
  • Oh no. I hope everything is ok w/Hana. pls keep us updated on her!
  • Hopefully it's nothing complicated. I hope she and you are alright.
  • Oh no, I'm so sorry! I hope they find out what it is quickly and solve it.
  • Very sorry. I hope that they can discover what is causing her issues.
  • Any news yet? (I know I am a few time zones ahead of you, but just curious to see how she is doing)
  • Ok so its not looking too good. Hana developed a high fever and has fluid built up in her upper body cavity. The vet took x-rays but cant see past all the fluid so now I have to tak her to another location for a ultrasound. She has a high enzym count in her liver and pain in her abdomen. I would have had the ultrasound done the same night but they wanted almost 4 grand to call in a specialist and another 5 grand to possibly do surgery.

At this point things are not looking good and I'm on my way to take her in for a ultasound.
  • Just sitting here waiting and waiting. I'm at the emr vet that I had a horrible time when I brought taro in for his ears. This place really blows but if they're the only ones near me then whatever, I just want my hunting partner back in the duck blind with me.

  • Gen--I'm so sorry, and will be thinking good thoughts for Hana. It sounds really scary. I'll be hoping they find something that can be easily taken care of. Poor girl!

And I know what you mean about emr vet places sucking...the first time I took in Toby after a fight to one (VCA) they charged a ton, wanted to lots of unnecessary tests, and were just generally jerks. Luckily we have two in town, and the other is better,so I've started going to that one.
  • Ahh crap! Gen this frickin sucks. I am so sorry.
  • Oh man, I'm sad reading this. I was hoping there would be some better news. $4k to bring in a specialist to do an ultrasound is insane. Keep us posted.
  • Oh man Gen. I'm so sorry to hear this. I have such a fond place in my heart for Hana. She's the dog that introduced me to upland hunting. If I were the praying type, I'd be praying for her right now. You guys are in my thoughts.
  • I hope everything turns out alright with Hana.
  • You guys are still in my thoughts... Hopefully it is something that is easily diagnosed and treated.

  • So I dropped her off to get a ultrasound and a lymphnode test. she has swollen Lymphs. I dont knowwhen this happened but when did veterinary medicine become like a auto garage? The nurses are like service advisors at a grage. I told them what I was able to afford and asked what the most important tests are, they come back with the ultrasound test and a liver FNA test where they stick a long needle into the liver. She tells me that the risks are low but there is a chance that she could bleed out. The doctor tells you one thing and then the nurses come back with some thing else. WTF!
  • Oh see I have had the same vet as my parents have had for 25 years. I can't stand going to the emergency vet because of crap like this. Just breath and count to ten, over and over again....
  • Bah im rooting for hana and you.
  • Still waiting, Taro's been laying in Hana's bed and howling for the last 40 minuts... Its been a tense sad day just waiting to hear the worst possible news.
  • Thanks for keeping us updated even if you haven't heard anything yet. I keep checking in to hear if you've heard anything too....It makes me almost as nervous as if it were one of my own...
  • I'm sorry Gen, this really sucks.
  • Gen, I'm hoping to hear better news soon. Hang in there buddy.
  • Ok... well looks like its going to be the worst news possible. The internal medicine specialist gave me a call and after a Lymphnode test (still waiting on results) she believes almost 90% that Hana has Lymphoma cancer. Soooo.....Hana is at the house now with a electrolyte I.V. and sleeping.

If she doesn't eat this week we may end up putting her to the resting place by the weekend. I have no idea what the hell to do now. Her symptoms are exactly whats on the animal medical bookI have so with that and what the vet said today, I think it almost positive to assume that it is what it is. I'm just going to make her comfortable as much as I can and prepare for the inevidable.
