New Hokkaido inu litter in Poland

On 7 February 2008 a new hokkaido inu litter was born in Poland (kennel Running Morpheus Kennel - friends of us), sadly only one puppy from 3 has lived enough to start eating.

There are some pictures of puppy and her parents.

That last picture is awesome. I actually laughed out loud twice---once when I first saw it and once when I went back to look over the pictures again. Hilarious!

Oh yeah, and the puppy is cute too!

    Edit: Make that three times!

Yea, I think that last pic is great! Really funny! I think that look is called "The Stink Eye"- lol!

The puppy pics are really cute, the second one is just so sweet.

Robert- is the lady who had the pups name Ewa? I had a lady email me to tell my only one of her pups lived too and it was white. That is so sad that as rare of a breed as Hokkaidos are only 1 survive out of 3 Frown

Awe. What a super cute pic with the pup. So sad it's the only one that survived.

I'm not familiar with this breed.  Beautiful. Are they smaller than Akitas?

That second pic is so adorable.  Thats really sad only 1 of the 3 pups made it.  Is that normal for hokkaido to give birth to a few pups and only 1 or 2 surviving?  Or was this just a unfortunate case.

    Jamie - Yes, it's Ewa.

sujewel - Oh, they are a lot smaller than akitas, they are smaller than shikoku, but slighty bigger than shibas.

Romi - Hokkaido inu litters are usually small 2-4 puppies, they are hard to breed - but in this case it was rather unfortunate case.

WOW, ktrebor. They don't look that small. They are absolutely beutiful. I'm so sorry about the litter. So sad.

My Niki (hokkaido) is from a litter of 5 puppies...

Her parents had 4 litters (if i remember well)

    1) 3 puppies (all males) 2) 4 puppies (1 female 3 males) 3) juste 1 female and 4) 5 puppies (3 females and 2 males)

I think there is less puppies in east bloodlines due to the strong family relation between dogs... (it s a consequence of the consanginity)

But even, Hokkaido are not easy to breed...

Thanks for the pictures. #2 really captures the coloration of the Mom's red highlights on the ears etc and the "Madonna and child" scene. The very upright standing dog with front paws tucked in is the most upright posture I've ever seen. Great shots!

Thanks for the pictures, they're great! I love that cute little tongue giving kisses in the fifth one.

I have to admit, I used to think that Hokkaidos just looked like bigger Shibas. But seeing this pictures has made me appreciate some of the subtle differences, like the shape of their head and the setting of their eyes. Even at the young age, you can already see the family resemblance to this puppies parents. Particularly in the 7th pictures, with the ears back and eyes like that, I'm reminded of the "stink eye" pic (last pic in the first post on this thread) that I still laugh out loud every time I see.

A few days has passed. Kagai (she has a name now :) is growing very fast.

    image

She is very curious, and seems to be not affraid of the surrounding world. She likes to explore a lot.

    image

She is trying to eat everything arround, even stones :)

    image

She is developing strong guarding instinct, there she has spotted some strange women on "her" property (this was a wife of the photographer)

Also I was asked by Eva (owner of the Running Morpheus) for a little help. Kagai was reserved by the person from Sweden, but due the personal problems, she has resigned. So Eva is still looking for a new home for Kagai. She could be contacted at: ewa@husky.info.pl or kennel@hokkaido.info.pl
