Well they use these green bags, which have a metal chain inside of them. When the dog isn't listening you are supposed to throw them at the ground near your dog, and the noise is supposed to mimic a dog clacking it's teeth together which is a warning sign. All it ever did was scare the crap out of Nemo, I think I tossed one once and felt like a total asshole.
Another friend tried them too, her Carin Terrier (Whizzer!) wasn't phased by them but did like to tear the green bags apart. They also use a part metal collar for walking that when you tug on it is supposed to make that same noise. However with a regular leash if you give it a quick tug or "pop" you can get your dog to look at you, and you don't have to worry about a slack collar that a dog could back out of.
If Romi's guy has been around dogs for 40 years, he is much more experienced than the guy we had. I knew more about dogs than the Bark Buster guy in our area, and he no longer has his vehicle decorated with Bark Buster logs, so I guess it didn't work out for him. He just wasn't able to think outside the "Bark Buster" box. And the entire medthod just does not work for fear based issues.
Brandon - That kind of sucks, you couldn't get another trainer to come out to replace the sucky one you got? Or was he the only one in your area available? There are 3 other trainers in my area, so if for some reason it's not happenining with this guy, I think I would be able to switch to another trainer. But we'll see. Im super excited! Thanks guys...I will definately keep you guys updated!
Well, since i've been working from home this past week, i've been adding a walk into our routine at around 2pm everyday. Today on our walk my neighbor's cream shiba was off leash walking around. I saw him coming toward us so i picked up Ninja. My neighbor came out and grabbed Gringo before he reached us and apologized and said she was in the garage and didn't know we were out here. I didn't let it get to the point where Ninja would start to growl, I just picked him up right away when I saw Gringo. (thanks brad for that advice) He seemed more calm and relaxed, he wasn't trying to squirm or get out of my arms nor was he growling or barking. Just thought that was kind of interesting.
Their Shiba is always off leash, anytime they go for a walk or just out to potty. But their Shiba is soooo obedient. Its pretty amazing. I asked how they trained him so well...they said it took about 2-3 years of constant training. Sometimes we're in the front letting our dogs potty and they will come out to let him potty and we'll start talking and then after he does his business, they just say "Go inside" and he goes inside. I am always like WOW! Everytime they command him to go back home while we're chatting im always surprised he obeys the order no questions asked. But i do agree that its still very risky.

Good luck Romi. I will be anxious to hear about Ninja's first lesson.

Cool!
So your neighbor had their Shiba off leash? I guess they don't care to much about their Shiba.
