@araks what?! Thats tight! I never knew that. I do know for sure that Ninetales is based off of a nine-tailed fox of Japanese mythology, like of the Shinto religion. I'll just link the wikipedia article

ALSO, a similar ninetales is in Okami as one of the bosses to beat. Its a pretty epic fight.

@jellyfart I remember watching the cartoon as a kid and the episode with ninetales was about it waiting a thousand years for its master to come back, but the master dies and never returns, so ninetales continues to wait.

And agreed, the ninetales from okami was awesome.

Ninetails is based off kitsune myth, but the pokemon cartoon had a episode kinda like Hachiko. One of my favorite episode.

Here's part of the episode where Ninetails explained why she was forcing Brock to stay with her as Brock looked like her master.
