Well, as I said before, I'm really sorry to hear about her ear... but I have o admit, I think it makes her even cuter! Smile

I'm sure you are super stoked - we are so stoked for you!

You can blame all the cute puppies that show up on this forum on us... we don't mind.

Poor Kangai, she was bitten by a siberian husky,  she  put her head between bars in Siberian Husky kennel, and then she was attacked. Do not resign from showing her, this breed is so rare outside Japan. Without proper show documents it will be hard to "use" her in breeding plans.

Thank you for the advice Robert. I will ask around when she gets here and see if they would still allow me to show her still. Its def. something that I would love to do. She is a very beautiful dog, too beautiful not to show off a little bit Wink

I didnt know that it was a husky that bit her. Poor little thing. Well at least shes still in good spirits about it and is still happy and playing and carrying on like she doesnt care Sealed

     Hi everyone,

It is about 48 hours to the flight…

Yes, Jamie decided to take her - anyway.

Jamie, look to the postbox :)

I send You some films from yesterday. You can put them here…

    Now about the jinxed ear…

Because tt happened by us, I should write You something more about (Jamie knows everything cause we write permanently every day)

Yes, unfortunately that accident happened 4 days before the flight. Kangai have played since weeks with all of our dogs and she had never any argument with anyone. But she is very busybody and stubborn and she always puts her nose everywhere she just want to. If she “have to” do something - she just do everything to reach the goal she though out.

There was no disagreement earlier, she was acceptable and very likely in the kennel, but this time she was so pushy to our Tajga with her invitation to co-play (play, with me play!) – and Tajga just wanted to stop playing and already go sleep, that she catch her stronger than usually, that Kangai shied… And that was the reason…. It was our fault, and we had to face the music…

We would be honest and fair with Jamie, cause we are not used to cheat anyone, that the situation is another that we agreed.

Some minutes after it happened, we did the pictures of Kangai and wrote immediately to Jamie, if she want to have a dog with a little crash on ear or not? In any case – she could just stay by us and we`ll give back all the costs to Jamie and we could call away the flight. Jamie could decide also if she want a puppy in the next year…. but she said – NO. Only Kangai. So, she’ll fly to US, as it was said – on Saturday….

But If You think, that this warning was a lesson for Kangai, You are wrong :)

She learned nothing. After 15 minutes she was already playing in the garden with our small mongrel – Zoska, and in the morning, she sat by the huskies – and jump to join their play ith her own invitation – “Hi, look at me, here I am” and starting to bite them on the legs… :)

Naturally, Vet saw this ear, and it looks quite good. The wound was not big, and when the hair grow in this place, the ear will be almost like the other one. The outer line can be subtly askew then the right one.

The vet wrote down in a pet passport that the ear was hurt in an accident, and that she wasn’t born with an askew line of left ear. Such a certificate is enough by us – when something like this happened, and You want to show or breed the dog. Of course, on the show - when the judges have 20 of dogs from one breed and one have a little bit changed ear, he can choose as a most beautiful – a dog with “full ears” :) , but when You have in US only a few Hokkaido, I don’t think the judge will turn up with his nose at Kangai`s ear.

I’ve already get used a little to the thought she’ll leave us, but I will miss her a lot. I think that my crying in Frankfurt will be heard in US, or at least at whole the airport.

We start the trip tomorrow afternoon, cause we have to reach Frankfurt Airport at 6 a.m. - our time. At 10 a.m. she will be in the air, then 9 hours of flight and at 7 p.m. our time - 1 p.m. Your time, she will be in Detroit.

Everything is ready to this trip. Carrier, health certificate, papers for Jamie and Kangai, toys and others.

I am very curious, how she react for Jamie and Jamie`s husband, for a new house and new dogs, and how long will she acclimatize.

She is very well socialized, so she should have no problem with accepting the new family. Sure, she can be a little astonished with everything and can be sad sometimes, could cheep or wanted to go out to look after us. But I am sure, Jamie will take a good care of her, so she forget fast about our pack and us.  She loves all the people and she is sweet, but she is  also a Japanese hooligan and smarty-pants at once :)  so after some to acclimatize , You should start to work with her – what she can do at home, and what she cannot ;]

If You will keep the advices I gave You many times, everything will be super. I know it. ;]

I am so afraid of this flight, and I am crying, when I think, she will be alone and frightened so a long time in a strange place. And she wouldn’t know why we did it to her…

She doesn’t know yet, that in 48 hours she will be in the longest trip in her life!!!!

But I trust, that when she will be on place, there are awaiting for her only a good moments in her life. I believe I do good, giving her to Jamie`s hands. I will always wait with impatience for the news from You and Kangai.

If You ever fix on a journey to You great-grandparent’s country, You will be always a nice guest here. Now, You become a family :)

    Ewa

Did I tell You that she likes to watch tv? :)

Ewaka - don't worry too much about the flight. Three of us here had our Shikoku puppies fly from Holland at 10 weeks of age and they all rebounded just fine! I am sure Kangai will do the same!

It's too bad she got bit, but I think the little part of her ear missing ads some character to her look.  She is so cute.  I love the description of her fearless attitude.

Ewaka: Thank you for sharing that story! She sounds like a very sweet and playful dog. Even though Kangai is going to live with Jamie, there are many of us that are anxiously awaiting her arrival. :-)

To everyone who has had their dog imported from such a long flight, how do they act when you got them? Is there anything I should know or do to make her feel at home? Even when she arrives at the airport, we will then have a 1 1/2 hour drive home, but we will make sure she has food, water, and stretches her legs for a while before driving again. =)

Miko was POOPED. She basically slept for 2 days. The more shocking thing is when the jet lag wears off and you get to see your dogs REAL energy.

At first I was like "I don't know what Brad is talking about, hectic? she is the most chill dog ever." Then two days later I got to see the real Himiko and thought "OH I get it. She is part dog part Tasmanian Devil"

Your mama instincts will kick in as soon as she is in your arms.

    Congratulations on your new baby.

Didn't do anything special. We had an 8 hr drive home from Peggy's (Peggy picked them up the day before) and Kuma slept on my lap the whole way home. He bonded immediately.

    these videos are precious!

JaJa after 24 hours flight jumped at Kate, and after 3 hours started to hunt for our cats :) so Kangai will be fine :)

Great videos, what a little destroyer! :)

Robert - did you import Jaja from Japan?? How long of a flight did she have?

Speaking of which, any word when you will be breeding JaJa next??

  • edited November -1

yeah, movies titled: Kangai The Slipper Fighter :]

    to tsukitsune:

She is 11 weeks old and  weighs 7 kg (15 lbs) actually :)

On the videos, she is playing with our 10 years old`s mongrel - Zoska - our old, very warm and smart home "huggy". Zoska brought up many of our puppies, that we bought :)

Jamie, consider the difference of time between Europe and America. Now, she got used to sleep, while You are coming back from Your work, and she got used to play, when You are going to sleep. So, be prepared for some sleepless night :))))

Ewa, trust me I have had my share of sleepless nights. Just recently we are able to sleep through the whole night without the wiggle worms being loud and crazy, but she is worth many sleepless nightsTongue out

Both Keira and Kenji sleep in the room with us and the doors shut and the cats sleep wherever else in the house because they sleep during the day and are the ones who make a rucus at night. I am going to have to go get a bigger bed now for all 3 of themLaughing

oh my!! My shiba inu is full grown at 18 lbs! Kangai is going to be a
nice sized Hokkaido! and quite the spitfire by the look of it!!
  • edited November -1
Yes we have imported JaJa from Japan, she have a long fligh almost 22 hours long. From Narita airport to Hamburg and then to Warsaw. Regarding breeding we were thinking about this fall but it all depends from JaJa health check (displasia and hereditary eyes diseases check - PRA, etc).

  • edited November -1
Thanks Dave! Hopefully Keira and Kenji can keep up with her! Them both just hitting their 1 year old mark, they are starting to become old farts.Tongue out I love having puppies around mius the potty training, but im sure if she isnt 100% potty trained, within a few weeks she will be. Now I have to puppy proof my house again! Wink

I'm super late to this but, those videos are SO CUTE! He really showed those shoes who was boss. lol.

When we flew Hilo in from Madrid and picked him up he didn't want to leave his crate, I had to take the hole thing apart just to get him to come out. He slept a bunch on the drive home and then just kinda laid around for a few days (he had an ear infection tho).

Lani took some coaxing to get out of the crate too, after her trip from Poland, but she eventually came out without having to take it apart. She was a little skittish but really did well. She immodestly peed everywhere too.

My suggestion is to bring lots of treats and give her lots of love on the ride home, by the time you get home she will be a crazy puppy again.
