That's right up the road from me, depending on my work schedule I might go. I don't have a Kai and wouldn't bring my Shiba (he doesn't do well at social events) but I'd bring my West Siberian Laika, if anyone is interested in meeting one.

I've only been hunting over a dog for a short time, and am still learning a lot myself. I do not hunt with any Nihon Ken, I use a West Siberian Laika who was bred for treeing game. My Shiba will hunt but he's more interested in shredding things than…

I have three Kismet Collars and leashes, they are very well made with high quality materials and are quite durable. I recommend Kismet to anyone who wants a nice leather collar/leash.

I don't think so, but I'm not very active on this forum anymore so they might be. I pop in and read stuff often but don't comment much. Anyways, congrats on the pup, and I hope you have fun with him!

Found it. He's brindle. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=859489550728649&set=gm.753903631339648&type=1&theater

I'm pretty sure Shigeru sent a brindle Hokkaido to Colorado (not to Brad) last year.

It's a recessive gene that is present in all Nihon Ken breeds and many other breeds world-wide. Cream dogs are e/e (recessive red) and it ranges from deep mahogany to white. Most e/e Nihon Ken are pale cream or white. You won't know if a colored dog…

I haven't seen very many examples of b/b Nihon Ken. I've seen a few pictures of dogs that looked b/b (usually older photographs) but almost no recent ones. I can't think of any off the top of my head... I just like lots of colors is all. I'm a fan …

Okay, the brown thing is pretty cool. Kinda a bummer that he doesn't carry black and tan though.

@cezieg Yup, that describes Katana about perfectly.

Pinto coloring was originally part of the Nihon Ken, but was excluded by modern standards. There are some nifty pictures of Pinto Kishu, Shikoku, and Akita somewhere on the forum. Anywho, I've seen a few Pinto Shibas. They certainly are cute, and t…

Conker has flown twice in cargo on Alaska airlines ($100 each way, if you flew with the dog. More if the dog was alone.) He was fine both times. I had a Kai Ken flown on United PetSafe, I think ($275). He didn't handle the trip so well... I flew m…

e/e dogs can be pinto. The white spotting gene has a huge variance in coverage. Flint is pinto but has color since his isn't extreme white spotting. If he were e/e he'd still be pinto, it just wouldn't be noticeable since e/e Laika also tend to be w…

Ooh, very interesting. I'd like to know if it's true black or dark red as well.

@WrylyBrindle uses these: http://hurtta.com/EN/Products/Reflector%20products/Polar%20vest/ I've been looking for a hunting vest for my Laika, but so far haven't been satisfied with much I've seen online. I'll probably just end up making one.

Cost depends on your local food prices. Food is WAY cheaper where I am now (south-central Michigan) than it was in southern Oregon. However, I haven't been able to find as good a variety here than over there... There is no set answer to the "ho…

@Ketsuryu I'm curious why the catch dog should preferably have prick-ears. What advantage does a prick-eard dog have over a drop-eared dog in this regard? Or is that just your personal preference...

There are several threads here about it, lots of good information in them, do a search in the nutrition section and you'll find them. I have 4 years experience feeding raw foods. I started shortly after getting my Shiba. My Laika pup and my Mom's …

She's gorgeous! Gotta be a handful based on her breeds. That is a good shelter picture, a lot of the time they are pretty crappy. Nice shelter pictures really help dogs get adopted :) Kumatora does look a bit like an American Akita. Is she a shelte…

Cute! I've always liked Siberian Huskies.
