  • Our girl Sumi (shikoku) did pee out of excitement when she was a puppy, so I guess its quite normal. It will disappear after some weeks, don't worry.
  • Yep, there has been a discussion about it on the "I love my shikoku" facebook group. And just posted it on "the nihonken forum" facebook group. It's just online for 4 days and allready over 150 dogs registered :-)
  • I just send you a email Hinata, some have had problems with not receiving the confirmation email. I'm trying to fix it. Nico
  • I'm not sure if it's just because of the amount of more intact dogs is Europe is the main reason that they might live longer. Probably it has something to do with other things, like vaccines. As far I know, in the US they do more vaccines then here …
  • Interesting... I know there are advantages of neutering or spaying your dogs, but there are some negative effects too. for an example a higher risk of: distorted bone structure, hypothyroidism, obesity (witch can cause a lot more problems), diabete…
  • We have 2 intact huskie males and 2 intact shikoku (male and female). Everything went well when our female was in heat, because we're very careful, keep them separated etc. I don't think a lot of dog owners here in Europe neuter or spay their dog. …
  • Indeed, glad to hear it was an accident from the baby sitter. And yes, I know accidents can happen, I'm just very careful myself. I hope the pup is not very hard to handle for the new owner.
  • just unbelievable, why would someone do that? I mean, our shikoku Sumi was in heat about a month ago. We noticed that our husky was very interested in her, so we kept them separated 24 hours a day Or we kept our eyes on them every second when we l…
  • Vitamin C might be useful but dogs produce it themselves. Humans don't anymore produce this. You can see it because for collagen production, vitamin C is essential. That's why the skin of people ages, but not (or hardly) from most animals. Fish oil …
  • This is so funny! Our Shousei makes exact the same noise when he's yawning, like in the first vid.
  • Wow, that's one beautyful Kai, you are showing here, Shigeru. It confirms that Kai shouldn't be to big, do you think their size equals Shikoku? The pattern is stricking!
  • I saw the Kai too, first time I ever saw one. She looked very nice, but I expected a Kai to be some bigger. She was about the same size as an average Shikoku. At the photo you may see how is her height, compared to the lady handler. The judge, a Fi…
  • Fun it is, amazing to see how dogs really like to work out. That's the problem with dogs who are always on the leash, they can never go bananas :-) Those sled dogs may need one person for every two dogs to hold them from starting to early. Let's fin…
  • Nice to see, however there is no harmony in this team. You can watch the heads of the dogs going up and down in 4 different rhythms, consuming (wasting) massive amounts of energy. A good sled team with huskies, malamutes or Alaskans would be in tot…
  • I will also post a photo of Jiro, one beauty of an Akita from Hof van Bloemendaal kennel, who won the reserve World Champion. Jiro was in great shape, however the brindle akita just a small bit better developed. Much older too, btw.
  • Here's a shot from Shousei, doing very well and in great shape but needs a bit more time to come near Kekko's or Yuu's shape. Also his coat is still not as full, he needs to be a bit older for this. This photo was taken a few days before the competi…
