Since there are a lot of new folks...

edited December 2007 in General

Where are you all from, what dogs do you have and what dogs are in your future?

We are from Minneapolis, MN but now live in Stone Mountain, GA.  We have Niko a female Shiba Inu, Sasha a female rott/pit mix and getting a Male Japanese Akita Inu in the spring hopefully.

New York State, I have one dog, a Lab/Pitbull Mix. I am at college now (Pre-Medicine for eventually becoming a Veterinarian) and therefore wont be getting anymore dogs soon, TOO MUCH STUDYING!, but I am interested in learning more about the Shikoku and All Japanese and Korean Breeds, Dingo, Dutch Shepherd, Mudi, Lapponian Herder, and pretty much every other dog breed there is.

    Hi All!

I am new! My name is Romi, well my full name is Hiromi, but i go by "Romi" because too many people have too much trouble trying to pronounce my name. I grew up in Orange County, CA all of my life, and currently live in Tustin, CA with my boyfriend John. I have a 14 month Flashy Fawn Female Boxer named Portia (my boyfriend's x-mas present from me last year) and I just got a 4 month old Orange and White Male Shiba Inu named Ninja (my boyfriend bought him for my x-mas present this year :D ) . I work for a wholesale/retail aftermarket automotive performance parts company doing Accounting and Online Sales. So if you guys ever need anything for your car, performance or oem, let me know and ill do my best to hook you up! John is also in the same industry but he only sells wheels and tires.

We would like to get another dog in the future...but it probably won't be for a while. The type of breed is not decided either...there's so many choices its so hard to choose one~! But im a big fan of the mini poodles...their temperments are awesome...and they're hypoallergic! But we'll see...(sorry for the long post)

I'm Brandon.  I have a naughty shiba named Nemo.  He is more than a bit crazy and we have a lot of fun together.  He's a very spoiled little guy.

I also have two cats, Homer and Moxie.  Homer can be a real prick and prefers to eat his food on top of the refrigerator.  Moxie is fat and we are trying to fix that, she is kind of odd, and really does not like Nemo.  I love them both.

I am Kris and my husband Dan and I live in SE PA, although I was originally from Colorado. I have 1 Shikoku, 4 housecats (Chester, Loopy, Togo, Pinky) and 14 barn cats (I won't give you all of their names!). We also own 7 horses, of which I breed a few more each year (and hopefully sell a few too so that we remain with about the same number, LOL).

We live on a working farm, that is what my husband does for a living while I work as a medical writer. It is super learning from everyone's experiences. I am in love with the Spitz breed look and previously owned only Siberians. But I am totally in love with my Shikoku as he looks a lot like a Siberian and has the qualities I like (and doesn't seem to have those that I didn't like in Siberians -- like the wanderlust).

I forgot to mention I also have two cats, a male Gray DLH Gandalf who is about as uncaring a cat as i have ever seen, he will lay on seemingly uncomfortable things life combs and such and purr like it was pure catnip. I also have a Burmese named Maya who is diabetic ($800 vet bill) and weights like 4-6 pounds, but will still charge from the other side of the room my 55 pound dog Sadie with know warning, hissing and swatting at her. Meanwhile Sadie is perplexed because she was on the other side of the room laying down quietly

PS: My dog is 55 pounds and 23" at the withers and can keep up with me on my bike non stop for 15 miles up and down hills at 10-15 miles an hour while chasing deer and squirrels, Its not Iditarod stamina but from what I have read, the Shika Inus can do this as well and perhaps even better, since they catch deer! I want to know how that is possible, because god knows Sadie tries, but she is not fast enough for White tail Deer.

PPS or PSS or PSP, or PPP or SPP or SSS or SPS I forget.

Jindos (around the same size as Shika inus) have been clocked at 35 mph, and the Saluki can out run any mammel over a three mile course, there stride is 10 feet and twice during that time all for paws are off the ground!

Man, I didnt think of putting in what we do....

Hubby is a pilot which leads to him being gone every other week for a week.  I am a social worker by education and have done that forever but recently had my passion stolen by hell...I mean my last job.  I am now a nanny for an amazing family which still allows me to us my skills with their "special needs" son.  I love it and getting my sanity back.  My dogs have gotten me through so much with hubby being gone.

Oh fine, jobs... I am a makeup artist, who still teaches yoga to girls with eating disorders (would teach boys too, but mostly girls show interest), my husband Jason is a tech trainer for Bose. We are currently in the planning stages of starting a dog rescue out here in Rhode Island.

I currently don't do anything worth talking about, but I'm on the waiting list to get into school to become a radiography tech.

My wife is a travel agent.

Hm, career, now there's a good question.  I'm trying to decide what I want to do when I 'graduate' from being a stay-at-home mom.  Any suggestions?

Hi All, I’m not new – my name is Brad, my wife is Jen. We have 5 dogs right now but will have 6 in a few days – we pick up our Kai Ken on the 23rd.

We just moved to Taos, New Mexico from Atlanta, Georgia. Before that we lived all over – we both moved to Atl from the San Francisco area.

I am a programmer and Jen is a stay-at-home dog mommy.

I’m glad we have so many new members – I think you will all see that this is a very open, friendly place.

On a side note…. Romi – I have a Subaru WRX STi – can you hook me up w/ a Turbo upgrade.  :c)

I'm Jennifer (usually the one on the forum, but Tommy posts every once and a while - like Jen and Brad, it's a topic of discussion for us). Tommy and I are both in the Air Force, we're engineers/program managers. Right now we live in Dayton, Ohio, but the AF might be moving Tommy to Vandenberg AFB, CA (near Santa Barbara). Hopefully we'll work it out so I can move out there this year too. We have two crazy border collies, 3 and 2 (2 are better than 1 - they wear each other out!), a Shiba/Chow mix (we were told) that has traits very like the Japanese dogs, and last for the dogs, Shikoku puppy Sora, who is the most stubborn puppy I've ever raised. She still barks when she's in the cage - shorter than she used to, but she still does it. We also have 2 African Grey parrots - Hannah is friendlier, Jake talks, mostly to the dogs. Lastly, we have the horses (boarded somewhere else). So, we have a pretty full house.

I am Pam and a single mother of two girls, and Zen :)  Storm is our black and grey/silver 4 month old kitten, who is fascinated with our Bettas; Ziggy, Rainbow,Rocky, and Sake.  You can tell which ones the children named LOL!  I have not been on the forum for a few weeks because I had an emergency with Zen.  She collasped three weeks ago and had to be rushed to the emergency room and then transported to a specialty surgeon.  We came to find out aftre XRay and Ultrasound that a portion of her instestine was twisted, which cut off the blood supply and finally closed up.  Prior the her collaspe, she show no signs of being ill at all.   She came through her surgery (2 1/2 hrs!!) and is home doing well.  They can't give me any type of explanation and I have been over everything I could think of and researched online for days?

I work in publishing and when I have my own home versus an apartment I would like to make an addition to our family with another Japanese breed, most likely a male Shiba Inu.

  • edited November -1
I am thrilled to hear Zen is okay. That had to be terrifying. On another note, my first Cat when I was a kid was a black grey silver cat named Storm
