I think Chloe is a Golden Retriever in a Shiba Inu body. She was an ANGEL! The vets couldn't believe how calm she was. They clipped her nails, gave her the booster shot, bordatella up the nose AND the microchip! She didn't even flinch once. I was shocked. They are going to be in for a surprise when I have to bring Ryu in one day LOL
Sorry I haven't updated you guys on Miss Chloe! She and Ryu were "formally" introduced this weekend. I'm starting to call them "Beavis and Butthead" They are attached at the hip. If they're outside and Chloe wants to come in, she won't budge until Ryu comes in too. It's actually pretty funny.
Here are some videos from today I have more uploading from the beginning of the day. These are towards the end and Chloe was getting irritated with Ryu.
(Note: Notice Chloe's "fly-biting" episodes. She goes through these spells countless times a day. Did you have experience with these, Jen?)
This is right after they got finished doing a Shiba 500 around the living room. By the time I got my camera, they stopped. Go figure:
This is after another play session and then refused to continue once I got the camera out. Chloe's getting fed up with Ryu in this one:
*great videos! they seem quite at peace with one another, with toys around also! Great job! They will be quite the pair! I'm so glad Ryu will be able to teach Chloe what it is to be a pampered family pooch!
yeah Pam, those are exactly what they were like, although Hachi didn't do them as frequently as that. Did the vet say everything is good with her vision and her jaw bone/structure? Does she eat OK? Does she 'see' anything else that isn't quite there?
We took Hachi to a specialist for a scan in which nothing was abnormal and I was never able to get it on camera, but what Chloe is doing looks very similar.
The vet checked her eyes but didn't notice anything abnormal. I'm going to have her check more thoroughly when I take her to get spayed. She didn't say anything about jaw bone/structure. I'll be sure to ask her about it. Eating-wise, today is the first day that she ate an entire bowl of food. She'll usually pick at it throughout the day unless it has canned food. Her teeth are pretty horrible so I thought maybe it hurt to eat kibble. She doesn't really act like she sees things that are there. Even with the fly-biting, she isn't really looking for anything, she just kinda snaps around with her mouth... I can't really figure it out. And its constant throughout the day as well
Oh! We had toys removed all week but noticed that Chloe had no interest in them. So far, no squabbles over toys however, Chloe has taken to pulling dirty clothes out of the hamper and will get snippy at Ryu if he comes to close to her "treasure" *sigh* We just got Ryu to leave the hamper alone!
it might be her teeth or something because of her teeth - maybe the vet can do a mini dental? I still don't know a great deal about the fly biting seizures because they never got to a harmful point for Hachi so we never pursued further diagnostics or treatments. Mostly, we noticed when Hachi was asleep, she'd suddenly wake up and bite at the air and move her head a bit, then stop and lay back down. It was very bizarre. Or she'd be sitting or getting pet then start fly biting. Do a little preliminary internet research. Did you mention the air biting to the vet?
Nope, I actually completely forgot to ask the vet on Friday. They're planning to do a full dental during the spay so maybe we'll have more info then. Meanwhile, I'll keep reading up on it.
Tomorrow, Ryu will be going to daycare and Chloe and I will be going to Petsmart and other doggie places to give her some exposure! Look at what the poor girl will have to wear:
Just so you know, I didn't make that dress! haha I bought it and painted it with puff paint
But I'll be more than happy to make some bandannas for you - I won't sell them to you though! All my rescue stuff will be free of charge (once I get that far!!)
Pam, those videos are great! I can't believe how well they are getting along after such a short time. More proof that taking things slow and being careful is totally the way to go. Nice job!!!!!!
I hate to say it because I'm totally against dressing dogs up for show, but she looks frickin ADORABLE in that dress! There's no way I could resist her if I bumped into you guys. :-)
LMAO! That dress is too funny. I love puppy torture.
I'm so glad they're getting along. I'm sure she'll get used to Ryu's play. Keigo didn't play much for the first few weeks of getting into'd to Mika. Now we can't get him to stop.
Today went great!! Ryu played his little heart out at daycare and Chloe and I went out on the town!
I had these little flyers made to give to interested parties as we painted the town red!
Our first stop was the doggie bakery to pick up some goodies and get free treats! Afterward, on to Petsmart we went. She did really well in there! She fearlessly went down EACH aisle and sniffed to her heart's content. We did have a little accident but thankfully we were right at the "Oops!" station so it took no time to clean up. We got a few necessities there and then went back to the car to change out of her dress. She kept shaking her tiny little body to get the dress off so I finally relented. However, she still had to wear a bandanna that said "Please Adopt Me"
Then we were off to "All About Dogs and Cats", a specialty boutique where Chloe got to ride in the cart. She did exceptional there and even got lots of snuggles from an employee. The owner let us put her flyer up on the Pet News board throughout the holidays!
Here she is in the cart:
After her cart ride, we got some lunch at Panera Bread where we sat outside (brrrr!) and several people came by to pet "the cute little puppy!" One lady said she had been looking for a Shiba for awhile so I made sure to give her Chloe's flyer.
After Panera, Bass Pro Shop was next on our list but when we got there, this is the kind of Chloe that I had: (although you can't tell in this picture, she IS strapped in )
Goooood question. I love her dearly and she will always have a special place in my heart but I don't feel like she's "the one" I feel like I'll just know when we find Ryu's sister - kind of like finding your husband lol
I'm so proud of her and also thankful for the lessons she is teaching Ryu but she will always be a temporary family member in our home. So, adopters - she's all yours!
Wow! Her and Ryu are cuddling! That is awesome. I have yet to catch Bella and Nola snuggling. It looks like she had quite a day yesterday. I am glad she did so well out and about meeting new people. I am sure with this kind of exposure she will find her forever home very soon. Good luck, Ms. Chloe! (By the way, LOVE the B&G t-shirt!)

a dirty laundry pirate! oh no!

But I hope the trip goes well tomorrow. I am sure she will do just fine meeting and greeting.

Fun, fun, fun!
Pam, you're mean :-P
I, too, am very eager to hear how things went.

Here is a very tired Chloe and Ryu:
I hope Chloe finds a good home!
This is a picture Tim snapped of us the other day
Yet another reason I have been forbidden from ever fostering.
