Nemo looks great in mud! People pay a lot of money to get covered in mud at spas and he gets his for free. Sorry to hear about his seizure. I'm glad you were there with him while he was going through it.
Great shots Brandon! I really like the one with Nemo's nose cuteoff. I don't think it detracts much at all from the photo. I also really like the one immediately after that.
I like the shots I got of Whiz, although to light up his face you almost always have to blow out his back end. The DOF change helps that look more interesting though.
The Nemo ones turned out nice too. I bounced the flash off our cherry coffee table and couch. Softened up the light and added a bit of a red hue. I fired those off at like 6:00am one day before work. Same with a few of the Whiz ones.
Jen - Whizzer isn't just ball crazy. He is crazy for anything that he thinks can be thrown and retrieved. He would chase a ball forever, it gets kind of annoying, as they have to be hidden out of sight for him to calm down.
Earlier this week the weather in Wisconsin had been cold, really cold. Near zero every morning and highs in the low 20's with wind, but yesterday things changed. In the afternoon it was 40+ outside, and it was still over 35 last night at 8:00 so Nemo and I were heading out on a nice long walk. Last night we also returned Takara to her owners, so he could go back on his flexi, and we could walk faster, as Takara likes to stroll really slow. We headed out onto some sidewalks we had not walked in a couple of weeks, lots of fresh things to sniff and pee on, doggier paradise. However the melting snow also reveals many things to roll in, or possibly eat, most of which I could not see because it was very dark.
Last night Nemo was not looking for something to eat, no he was looking for something to roll in, and he founds something awful. Usually before a good roll on something dirty, Nemo does a bit of a dance, I can see it coming so I can drag him away, or inspect what it is that he wants to roll on. There was no dance last night, just Nemo quickly flipping onto his back and rolling like a pig in shit under the yellowish light provided by the street lamp. He was obviously having a good time, so i let him roll for a bit, as most stenches fall right out of Shiba coats, and so does mud gunk, but not last night. When Nemo popped back up, onto his feet I noticed that the fur on his back and tail were stuck together, like spiky hair with too much hair gel. His tail was not fluffy it was a spiky sticky, disgusting mess. There was also a lot of leaves and such stuck to him, so I got closer to him to brush that stuff off, as I attempted to do so it all stuck to my hand. Gross. WTF? The next logical thing to do of course, was sniff my hand. Again, Gross. WTF? The substance on my hand smelled like used, rotten, vegetable oil, however I cannot confirm that is what it was. It was ripe, really ripe, and it was all over Nemo. This substance was not going to come out on it's own, I quickly knew, that it was time for Nemo's first bath in about 10 months.
We quickly headed home, I was rubbing my hand in the snow trying to get this foul shit off, and Nemo was constantly flipping onto his back in the snow trying to rub the substance out of his fur, but it was not working. So there I am hurrying down the road with a dog who keeps flipping over as I drag him on his back through the snow, just trying to get home. On the walk home I was thinking "I hope Jennifer is home from dinner with friends, I don't want to wash this dog alone." As I approached our apartment I saw the lights were on, yes! I would not have to do this myself. I get in the apartment and yell "We have got to wash the damn dog. He rolled in some awful shit!" I kicked my shoes off and ran him straight to the bathroom, no taking the leash off, couldn't risk him rolling on the carpet with this stuff. As we get into the bathroom and I close the door, Nemo looks at me, he knows what is about to come and he is not happy.
Off with his harness and collar (both of which need to go in the washing machine) and into the tub he goes. We didn't have any treats prepared, we had given Nemo no warning that this was going to happen and he was not happy. As soon as the soap and water hit his fur he started to Shiba scream, and continued to Shiba scream through the entire 10 minute bath. Living in an apartment, the bathrooms of our neighbors on the other side of the wall and above us have bathrooms that share walls with ours. I have no idea what they might have been thinking if they used their bathroom while the bath was going on. "What are those people killing in that bathroom?" "They must be drowning it because he keeps yelling at it to stay in the god damned tub?" "If it speaks English, are those the high pitched screeches of a deaf child?" Maybe no one was home anywhere though because the cops never arrived at the door.
After 10 minutes of scrubbing, and washing, I was soaking wet and covered in more wet dog hair than I knew what to do with, but Nemo was clean. We dried him off pretty well and then let him run wild. Nemo spent 10-15 minutes running the Shiba 500 and doing carpet rubs, and couch rubs, and rubbing on the bed, and the futon, and whatever else he could rub on to try to get some stink back. I did take some pictures of him running around and what not, post bath, I'll try and post some soon.
So yeah, that was really fun. After it was over, I poured a stiff drink and watched Damages. I'm glad we have DVR, as that silly dog made me late for my stories.
Well getting the smelly stuff off my hand when outside wasn't a lot of fun, but other than that, the whole situation was kind of funny. Jennifer and I were both laughing pretty hard at Nemo as he screamed in protest during his bath.
LOL. That is too funny. I know the pre-roll dance. Lucy does it too. Silly Nemo. I'd like to think he learned his lesson, but he is a Shiba after all...
I highly doubt Nemo learned any lessons about rolling in stinky stuff.
Glad I could help LJ.
A bath in the winter has never happened before. Luckily he was in for the night and had eight hours to dry out before morning. I checked him before we went out in the morning and he was good to go.

Tried to get a nice one of them sitting posed, but Whizzer doesn't hold a stay and kept creeping towards Jennifer for the treat.
*Note Moxie the cat checking things out from her room.
Tried for a couch shot but Nemo got too excited, knocked Whizzer off the couch and perched on the arm
Whizzer tried to steal Nemo's blanket:
Whizzer:
Ready for the ball to be thrown:
Nemo:
I really wish I would not have cut off his nose in this shot:
Homer The Cat:
Thanks for the spam!!!
My favourite has to be the second one of Whizzer, before the "ready to get the ball".

Thanks for giving us our Nemo (and Whizzer) fix!

Sorry about your rough evening.
nice.
Great story, we can all relate I think!
But a bath in the winter? Poor Nemo - even if he did deserve it!
Glad I could help LJ.
