Don't get me wrong LJ, I've got places I've explored and found to be interesting in and around Atlanta. Those are the places I take people when they come to visit. I just don't find them any more interesting than cool places in other parts of the country. Nor do I find them interesting enough to outweigh the drawbacks of Atlanta.
LJ I think almost everything worth seeing and doing in almost every city takes a good trek off the beaten path. All of my favorite experiences in Rome took a lot of roaming (heehee bad pun), the Vatican? cool... so was the Colosseum. But the really cool stuff like Colonia de Gati and the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini and the crypts underneath were not in our tour guides they took a healthy dose of wanderlust.
I need to get to Rome. My parents went and hired a personal tour guide to take them around one day. He told a story of a man who dedicated 40 years of his life trying to write a book about everything that is in Rome, and gave up at an old age because it just couldn't be done. I'm not sure if it's a true story, but it gives you an idea about how much history is in Rome and how much there is to see.
LOL! So for you savage Americans(and to continue the derailing), I'm 1,88m (6'2") Kuma got weighed tonight, at the vet, and he is now 26,5 Kg (almost 58 and half lbs).
Brandon - (and this goes to everyone) Of course I would. If you warn in advance, I'll even try to get some days from work. And yes, we do like our meat. I'd say pork (along with cod) makes up fr 60% of our cuisine. We usually say there are 1001 ways to cook cod, and i haven't even tried a tenth of those. We also like our veggies and our olive oil, so it kind of balances out. About the place to eat, that could be arranged :-P
Jessica - There are a few places you might like to go to eat. I must confess I haven't tried them, but I hear good things for the vegetarians and vegans I know. I also know of this kitchen you could use, since you're a great cook, heheh.
Careful what you hint at, a little trip to Portugal where I know I get to cook AND play with the European Hilo (or is Hilo the American Kuma?)!?!?! That sounds like the best vacation ever!!!
Kuma had a bath yesterday Is it just me or does anyone think he's giving me the "Why? What did I do wrong? Why me?" look?
At a dog show, today. We ended up just going to watch, because he could be signed up for it on the same day. (crazy misinterpretation thing reading the website of the Portuguese kennel club).
Wet Kuma looking into the camera is a great photo.
I took one of our cats outside once, on a harness and leash, and he tried to jump back into our place through the screen. We tried it because he was always trying to get out the door when we opened it. He never tried to get out again.
Hahaha. Poor guy in that bathtub. His face says it all: "Not only do you make me suffer the indignity of getting a bath, but now you take a picture of it? That's just wrong dad."
Yesterday we went back to Sintra for a nice walk. Unfortunately we couldn't get through with our original plan to go in the National park because they don't allow dogs, but we still had a good time.
I realised I forgot to post something important. We found out something that makes Kuma loose his cool. Horses!! There are loads of carriages that take tourists around Sintra, and as soon as he saw the horses he went crazy. He wasn't barking or making a big fuss, he just got very focused on the horses and kept pulling and pulling. The first time, I wasn't expecting it and he almost tore my arm off. I guess it's safe to say he kept his hunting instinct, huh?

Jessica - There is a reason it is off the beaten path, isn't there? Too many people will ruin such treasures.

Looks like the Dog Show was cool, and looks like a nice day for it.
