Dave - I'm not sure what it's like to clean up after Turi, I just go over to his place, pull all the hair out that I can and leave!  Some friend I am.  Also, Turi loves me, man does that dog love me, he wouldn't stop licking my head when I stopped over last night.

You are right, there may need do be a different thread made.

Brad - How do you upload pictures so it shows up in one of those flash/slideshows?  I never have been able to figure that out.  If I were to start another thread, I could start doing that instead of linking individual pictures.

Yes Turi and Nemo were both rescues.

For anyone that is interested you can read about their life in a thread I started last year:

    http://www.nihonken.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=309&page=1#Item_4

We (Jennifer and I, Turi's human family) consider ourselves very lucky to be able to get these two together so often.  It was a really random way that things worked out the way they did.

Use the "Attachment" field at the bottom of the post field to browse to a pic, then hit "Add your comments". Once the msg is posted (and them image is uploaded to the server) you can edit the original post and attach another file by doing the same thing. Keep doing that till all your files are uploaded.

There are some issues w/ the Zend engine (PHP) and how it handles images. The images have to be non-progressive JPG files and should be under 1mb. Some images have to much data for Zend to create a thumbnail out of it, that is why some pics' thumbnails show up as black boxes w/ a number.

I usually take each pic into Photo Shop and shrink it down to 800x600 (or 800 x ??? depending on the image aspect ratio) then save it as a non-progressive jpg. Some digital cameras automatically save out as progressive jpg files - I'm not sure why - so those that don't show up when someone uploads them is usually due to this issue. But you can always just click the link to the file.

If you see a photo that takes a long time to show up in the slide show this is usually due to the file being very large - I have noticed sometimes photos get uploaded that are larger than 1mb. Also, when this happens sometimes the flash player throws an error (the slide show is written in Flash) - this is due to a recursive loop that I am to lazy to fix. Smile

Brandon, thats a really neat story about Nemo and Turi.  Its great that you guys live in the same city and are able to meet with eachother to let them play with eachother.  Im jealous!  Its so sad about how he and his brother were treated before they were adopted.  And im so glad that Nemo and Turi have loving forever homes now.  You're a great daddy!

That's weird, Dave. I never have any problems getting into a page. And everytime I open a thread it always goes to the new posts I haven't read.

Nor have I had a problem with YouTube (mentioned previously in a few other threads). Are you a PC user? That could be it. Or, your connection.

  • edited November -1
Sorry, I'm mad at the PCs in this house. We have a Media PC and a Server, which are constantly...CONSTANTLY in need of repair. I think this is our 4th Media PC. When they don't work out, Kurt just sells them on ebay as regular PCs. Which is fine, we get most of our money back. But it's a pain.

Haha. Serves you right for using a Winbloze product. Wink Check out MythTV. (Yes, I'm a total geek). Or an Apple TV. I'm a recent (as in the last year) convert to the mac world and I have completely purged myself from all non mac computers. I have found it liberating!

The issue is not that the page won't load, it is that the page loads at the point where the latest posts begin, but then all of the pictures start loading and taking up more space so I end up higher and higher in the thread. Every time I scroll back down, I end up higher again as more pictures load. If I wait unti all of the pictures have loaded I can then scroll down without a problem.

Yay Mac!! Yeah, we're super geeks here...I'm a ChemE (Engineer) grad and Kurt's a Production Manager (background in theater production. You would lOVE our house - we just got a new Home Theater projector for Xmas. A Panasonic PT-AE2000U. I'm nervous about because our last Panasonic died in 2 years. We wanted a DLP but I wasn't happy with the picture quality. The Projector People said the Panasonic are really our best bet and they extended their warranty to 2 years.

Do you read Gizmodo. AWESOME! And CNET on Tivo is great too.

I wish we could get rid of the PCs. I understand why our Media PC is always dying. It house 16,000 songs, about 40 movies and 5000 pictures. Plus, it's in our media rack and we need to have extra fans blowing on it. I dunno what the servers problem is, but Kurt's gonna be pissed when he gets home. He just fixed it before he left.

Brad....would you be able to do a tip thread for how to use the forum?  I know that when I am ready to post pics I am not going to remember which thread this was in.  Maybe put it in the forum topic??  That would be SO helpful!!!!!!!!!

Chad swears he is getting a mac soon...im a little hesitant.

Hahaha. Sounds like I would really like your house. When I graduate and get a full-time, full-wage job the first thing I'm going to spend some money on is a nice home theater setup. Right now mine is pieced together from a collection of my stuff and my roomates stuff and there are cables all over the place and its just a mess.

I really like CNET too. Don't read Gizmodo though. As my advisor likes to say, "Tivo is a life affirming experience". I can't imagine myself ever getting rid of my Tivo.

Have you thought about building your own Media PC? If you put it together from components that  you purchase individually it will be much cheaper and you can probably get higher quality stuff.

    ----

Rachael: Tell Chad to pull the trigger. MAN POWER!!!! errr, I meant to say MAC POWER!!!!! Wink

  • edited November -1

    I agree, Rachael. MAC POWER!!!!

We build all our PCs by hand and use Windows media. I'll take a pic of the media center...and post on a new thread, lol.

Gizmodo ROCKS. You should definitely take a look.

I hope my Tivo lasts forever. We got ours just before they changed to a yearly subscription. I don't know why they don't just sell the license to cable companies, I would think they would make so much more money. DVR on Cablevision SUCKS.

When you do get a home theater...Martin Logan speakers!!! They're awesome! Ours are the bigger ones Frown, but they're still awesome.

Nemo is going to the vet today.  He needs his blood drawn for his yearly heartworm test.  This will probably be a bit of a nightmare, as always.

    Good Luck

Be strong Nemo! We're here for you.

    that sux - good luck!

Well we made it back from the vet.  They were able to get some blood from him, and it only took 3 of us.  One of the vet techs got him in a really good grip and was able to minimize his ability to thrash, yet was able to not be clenching him most of the time.  She knew what she was doing.

He is heartworm free.  So now I just shelled out money for his Interceptor (instead of heartguard) and this years supply of Frontline.

Cheapest Interceptor (and heartgaurd) I have found is at www.petvetdirect.com  $31.99 plus shipping for 12 tablets (for dogs 25lbs and under).

Cheapest frontline is at www.petshed.com.  6 vials of  Fontline Plus (23-50lbs or whatever) for $51.95, vs $81.99 at 1-800-petmeds.

The only kind of nice thing about a trip to the vet is the fact that 15 minutes of stress there equals the work out of an hour run for him.  He's just pooped.

Excellent. I'm glad to hear Nemo got a clean bill of health. Now he's got a year before he needs to go through it again.
  • edited November -1
Thats great news!  Good Job NEMO!  Im glad everything went well and Nemo is a healthy pup.  Thanks for listing the websites!

Glad he is a healthy boy.

Well he has to go in for his shots in November, so he doesn't have quite a year.  He was very playful this evening, so there was no long lasting effects, that's for sure.

Last Friday night Finn and Turi stayed over night.  Here are a few pictures from the indoor play session for the weekend.  Sometime soon there will be some pictures from the outdoor session and more from inside.  I've just been busy at night (stupid school) and will be out of town this weekend.  I need a laptop so I can edit pictures on the go.

Great photos, as usual, Brandon! Look like a fun evening!

Three Shibas? That must have been HECTIC! :-)

As usual, I love your action shots Brandon, especially Nemo's nasty face where he only has one paw on the ground. Very good work!

They look like they had a blast! Shiba can be so crazy, and captured it perfectly. I like the nasty face shots, when Kaia does that I call it her "mean face".
  • edited November -1

The three of them can get a bit crazy but it tends to come in short bursts.  Maybe 10-20 minutes of playing at a time then like 4 hours of laying around.  When they were all around 2 or so, they would play like crazy for hours, now that they are 5, they are chill most of time time.  Nemo and Turi spent a lot of time sleeping cute next to each other on the bed, but anytime I went in with the camera they'd get up all like "What, no, we weren't sleeping next to each other, cuddling, you crazy?"

One time Fin was laying in his dog bed just relaxing and Nemo came up to it, stuck his nose under the dog bed and flipped it over on Fin like a taco.  Then he plowed his nose underneath and flipped the whole thing over.  It was pretty funny.

Great pics Brandon!  I love the dog collision pic, it looks like its in slow mo, lol.  Thats funny that Nemo and Turi wouldn't let you take a pic of them cuddling.  Thats so cute Nemo covered Fin like a taco.....I would LOVE to see that!
  • edited November -1
Nemo and Turi are brothers right? That's so cute that they cuddled together but wouldn't let you take a picture. Those damn Shibas are even smart enough to avoid blackmail material!
  • edited November -1

I swear Brandon, you take the BEST pictures!  Pure action-packed Shiba drama.  Nemo, Turi, and Fin are so lucky to have one another to play with and to hang out.

  • edited November -1
I love that last picture! Nemo looks precious!

    i LOVE nemo's thread! !

what great pictures and stories! I
wish I could network some Shiba friends where I live but no one seems
to own a Shiba Inu anywhere near Scranton, PA?!?

    I love
Whizzer! Tsuki and Kitsune have a cairn pal named Eva whom they adore
but Eva contracted Kennel Cough so they've been spending the last 4
    weeks apart Embarassed

Jennifer, have you tried meetup.com? If there aren't any local Shiba meetups, you can register as being interested in starting one and hopefully other people will see that. I met Rachael and Chad that way and they told me about this forum.
