Yesterday was Kuma's second show. He did great! No anxiety this time, so he was very comfortable in the ring. He repeated the "Very Good" mark, because according to this judge he needs to mature his body and his front is "loose" (whatever that means). I've sent Silvia the photos and she says she can't really understand it. Anyway, the important thing here is that Kuma got over his pavilion anxienty.
Awww!!! Kuma is sooo handsome!!!!! I want him!! lol the pictures of him at the park are too cute. I adore the super excited run/hop goin' on I loved watching him in the ring too~ Seems standing completely still must be a tricky thing to learn. I don't know anything about such things though (hope to one day ^_^) Never really thought about how challenging it must be to stand still after being corrected.
Does that park have a name? It's a beautiful place~
I love it, from beginning to end one can see and learn about Kuma from puppyhood to now. He was such an adorable puppy and now such a handsome man. congrats on the show
Hi guys, I need to clarify something that Rui seems to have forgotten to include. The girl you can see showing Kuma is my 2nd cousin, Alison. She has been a handler since age 4 and definitely knows her stuff. She's been to Krufts, too. After the disaster 2 weeks ago we got in touch with her for some advice. She lives in Madrid, about an hour by plane, so when she found cheap flights she offered to come with us. She gave us pointers and showed us how we should show Kuma. On the day, Rui ended up asking her to show Kuma about an hour before our turn!! So, I had no part in making Kuma more comfortable other than having the luck of having Alison as my relative! She was soooo great with him and I definitely think that it was her expertise that made it all go well. Both Kuma and Nyx liked her a lot so she is officially Auntie Al now! In return, we showed her around Lisbon and plied her with typical food (which, generally speaking, I must say is better than in Spain). She might come with us in Oporto in late January, too.
Well, I've been to Estremadura, Madrid, the Basque country and Galicia. I'm always worried about getting ripped off for bad food in Spain. The 'heuvos rotos' in the Basque country were good though. Ah, and it is easy to pass out from eating here....lol!
I shot this from the hip, but I liked the result (although it's not a good photo, I like Kuma's expression)
We took them to the vet yesterday for routine deworming and to get them weighed. They're keeping to the 9 to 1 rule as Kuma weighed in at 31,2 Kg (around 69lbs) and Nyx at 3,4Kg (7,5 lbs). Kuma and Nyx turned 11 months today.
Yeah, that was exactly it. Right form the start they have had that weight ration between them and it stuck, it's interesting how they maintain the proportion being different species.
Yesterday, I took Kuma to the vet, with an inflamed eye. His right eye was pretty red and oozy. So we went to the vet and she checked his eye for ulceration, which he didn't have so it seems to be plain ordinary Conjunctivitis and he is now being medicated with eye drops and an eye cream. He's not very happy about it but, as usual, he's a gem to give any treatment. There are loads of explanations to why this might have happened, but the simplest one seems to be Nyx got to his eye while they were playing, since they like their roughhousing.
Miso had that happen to him a while back too. I think the cat got to him as well. It clears up really fast with the medicine. Give Kuma a big hug from me and a get well. And tell Nyx to play nice with her brother!
Years ago I worked for an optometrist and conjunctivitis was a common problem - for most people it was only a minor issue and the meds made it feel a lot better.
